Yeah. When playing solo they are a pain.
I'm not much for the random teams. But I do play a lot with friends and then it's not as bad. Even though we don't really like them either, but they are at least bearable on at least two.
Or because they're the fastest missions, so operations get done quicker. I always save them until last so that they feel the most rewarding.
Because the player base complained away the big "rescue scientists" mission, which was a big map with centered 3 door map with all other side missions scattered around.
Do you remember it? You had to rescue 45-ish scientists with lots and LOTS of enemy reinforcements arrived. People complained it was what cost the first malovelent creek loss, being incomplete-able.
This is why we have next to no mission variety. Any challenge people can't step up to, they complain away.
