this is not bait, this is factual. i don't want your awards.

first off, this is a relative level. COMPARED TO ITS PEAK, this game is dead.

as of 7/19/2024, the game's 24 hour peak is 27,407 players, compared to the all-time peak 5 months ago of 458,709 players.
this means 94~% of players are lost. which is an incredibly large amount. for context, if the U.S. military lost 94% of its budget, it would lose approximately 727 billion dollars (rounded up).

yes, the game is dead. it doesn't need to have a set number of players to be considered dead.

additionally, about a month ago the game was at a 86.6% decline in players. it has been losing people for a long time. this is just a continuation.

The Finals, Lethal Company... eh, kinda yeah. They got hyped. Those two (at least the Finals) are receiving updates, though, so they're more "lots of people joined and they didn't like it so they left" then "the game is dying and long time players are quitting".
Payday 2 has a sequel out.
Counter Strike has a sequel out.
TF2 is LITERALLY a dead game. It's not being supported and not being updated.

i don't think we can answer that without loading into the game (which i can't do, because i uninstalled the game and i will not reinstall it for a single discussion topic). however, assuming we go with the classic "same amount as on steam" then that's the same. it's suffered the same drastic decline. either way, the number is still above 90%.

The game is not dead just because it is not riding at it peak or even half or even a third of the peak. Almost no game can retain its playerbase because there are so many other games for them to play. This game could have less than 2000 players and it would not be dead because you would still be able to find matches with other players. What constitutes a game being dead is when you are physically being prevented from playing with other players because the players just arent there, Squad 44/Post Scriptum is a prime example, last year you could only really play on 1 server and it was never full. As of now you can log into Helldivers 2 and hop into a game with 3 other players readily. That is not dead, i'm sick of hearing this about every game nowadays.

being able to find other players does not mean the game isn't dead. you can still load into TF2 (the most dead game i think i've ever played) and find matches.
