"Flop?" It sold like hotcakes, stop smoking crack.
Really though, biggest reasons player count dropped off was because
1) It was the popular thing, bandwagoners hopped on, and then hopped off to chase the next popular thing
2) Lack of content drops. Players got bored and moved on to something else
3) Persistent bugs and technical issues.
Armor is also not fun. For example - Bile Titan. Boring brain dead enemy with 1 trick and 1 way to kill it.
No new content.
And for me... Too many bugs. I played lots of hour but I just don't have patience to deal with all the bugs. Cannot reload properly and reloading 3 times in a row while pressing to shoot stalker who's trying to jump on my face, forever drop pod loading, chargers flying/sliding/running backwards... Get the f out.
Too annoying.
And the game seems getting worse with each patch.
lulz
Just because it doesn't maintain inflated player numbers indefinitely (it was the third most played game on Steam for 4 months straight), is not an indication of failure. The current player numbers are incredibly healthy for a $40 4 player coop shooter of this scope.
People saying nerfs or wokeness or bad community managers are all mad. People leave because of boredom, not petty things like this. Don't listen to them.
# The Sony Fiasco: Which I largely agree with. It wasn't until Sony tried forcing players to have an account with them, that numbers dropped significantly.
# The game is redundant: Completely disagree here. What game on the market doesn't have some kind of redundancy? I'd love to see one game on the market that doesn't have some form of repetition.
#4 Lack of Content: A few months ago, I would of agreed here. I brought up the lack of content topic and suggested remedies for them. Devs have listened and responded in previous updates. I don't expect it to be fixed overnight. Let them cook.
#5 Too Many Bugs : A few months into release, I would of agreed here as well, but stability has greatly improved.
#6 It's horrible discord: I have no real input on this. I have no reason to join any game's discord, let alone stay in it.
All in all, I think the game is fun despite it's set backs.
As for why the playercount has dropped, I think the simple answer is a lack of big new content updates since they've just been drip feeding so far. People have been waiting on something substantial for a while now and Arrowhead need to prove they can release big milestone updates if they want to get players back.
