Yeah but that brings me down to a couple of game here and there over an entire week at random places with minimal impact compared to me being actively dedicated to the community cause when there is an incentive or even better a tangible reward to get at times. I feel like when we look past a vocal minority of complaints for different reasons this one might be one of the biggest why the chill playerbase that can enjoy the game with it flaws are not as active as they used to be.
They already did it with the training facilities and i think its a fumble to not keep doing those type of small rewards even if you want to give them very little power in terms of effect because the goal is not to clear the entire galaxy within months if Joel doesnt put up some MOs to prevent this from happening. But the galaxy map being highlighted with more rewards from our previous efforts would make this entire virtual war a bit more satisfying and even from a "roleplay" point of view.
Right now I think there will be a bit of a lul in the war, partially because of a real life holiday in Sweden (many people take July off). The other reason is that those flanks are just a real problem from a strategic standpoint. Both factions are taking taking advantage to go wide and running with taking more outer rim planets. If the player base had managed to hold the bots from expanding the flank so far or managed to contain the terminids to Gacrux, then there would be less need to contain them again.
Really too bad about Vandalon IV. Bots are at .75% burn rate per hour (very low) and it really hurts to have a 5-way planet just waiting to blow two sectors up. Hopefully in the intervals where the MO is not being fought Vandalon can get some progress made...I am not overly hopeful given history.
I don't particularly enjoy fighting bots, but the hours I put in the bot MO is pretty much wasted, because we have a week long bug MO of capturing 6 planets. add to that, the bugs will keep taking more planets in the other side of the bug front too.
the MOs seem like meaningless grindfests. there are simply too many planets to fight over to meaningfully advance the status of the galactic war. it's been months since we took the wiped out the bots and they returned taking a bunch of planets, and their territory only expaned since.
if we get another front to fight on with the introduction of the squids, the community will be too fractured to keep up, and we'll start losing planets at an accelerated rate. and since liberation rate is adjusted based on the number of active players, having more players fighting does nothing.
