Tier 4 Upgrades
Am I the only one that thinks the new costs are just plain ridiculous?

I recently checked the upgrades section and saw 24.

Was like : Huh. More to do.

I checked the costs.

150-200+ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ commons.
150+ rare samples.
15 super samples is still reasonable. You can get roughly 18 per level 9 operation.
25k Cash is also reasonable as you probably have everything stratagem wise unlocked at the point where you reach tier 4 upgrades and the bank caps out at 50k. So at least some way to use it until new stratagems come.

But Christ almighty, I have to do less grinding in gacha games like Honkai Impact.

The worst part is that from footage from certain Youtubers (Such as LoreIn60Seconds) is that for example there are 6 hangar bay designs, indicating that there will be up to tier 6 upgrades.

What will the costs be then?

300-350 commons?
200 rares?
25 supers?
35k Cash?

And for lvl 6...
500 commons?
250 rares?
50 supers?
50k Cash?

Now costs aside, the effects are also... Nieche to say the...least.

First for the good effects.

- 1 supply box fully refills your support weapon mags. (Basically, supply packs give you 100% support weapon ammo instead of 50%.)
Which is okay at first, but then there is also the fact that I out of personal experience, rarely take more than one supply pack because I ran out of support ammo. But for stims mostly. But those are my two cents.

Now for the effects that make you go like : Not worth it at all.

- -15% orbital barrage spread
I don't see the 380mm and 120mm used a lot, only in eradication missions because of their wide spread and ability to cover a big area. (Moreso the case for the 380mm.) So this feels...Idk. A bit counterproductive.

- Multi-bomb strikes have 1 extra bomb
This upgrade is...VERY dependent on the strike in terms of effectivity.
Clusterbomb? Sir, you aren't gonna notice any difference at all.
Basic bombing run? Yeah, maybe. But the effect still ain't very strong.
And who uses napalm and smoke anyway?
This upgrade has its effect, but because you need 150 commons and 150 rares, it just isn't worth it.

Now for the effects that are just....Plain nieche and bad. And for those I want to remind you, dear reader about the ludicrous samples cost.

- +25% Fire damage for fire stratagems. (Flamethrower, Napalm Strike, Incendiary Mines.)
Aside from buffing 2 stratagems nobody ever uses (Napalm Strike, Incendiary Mines), knowing how the latest flame buff also made it way more dangerous for players, I wouldn't be surprised if the flames caused by the stratagems with that upgrade also kill players even faster. (Arrowhead. WHERE IS THE FIREPROOF ARMOR?!)

I don't need to explain why it is nieche and bad.

- Lightning arcs jump to one additional enemy
Same issue as before, it buffs two stratagems that are barely used and are heavily outclassed. Heavily in the nieche category.

- Sentries (Only sentries. Not emplacements.) take 50% less explosive damage
Sounds...Not bad on paper, yes? But...Keep in mind. Only the socialist toasters have explosive weaponry and aside from the rocket raider, the main explosive threat is the rocket devastator. And those fire multiple missiles already. So the damage reduction might be good against singular rockets from raiders, it won't do much against rocket devastators in my opinion.

TL;DR :

The tier 4 upgrades require ridiculous amounts of common and rare samples and aside from 1, give either bonuses that aren't worth it at all or are extremely nieche on top of it.

Also, I do not really...Understand the reason behind such extreme grind. It's not like Arrowhead sells us samples or anything. Unless they soon add samples to the store front, which would be highly scummy of them in my opinion.

But what are your opinions on these new upgrades? Personally. Cut the costs in half at the very least and make the effects viable.

Are they absurdly overpriced for the near-worthless bonuses they give? Absolutely. But I feel they were priced like that to give us a sample-sink since many of us have been at sample cap now for almost a month. And it's unlikely they will be adding more of these for months at least.

For context, I have roughly 65 hours, am level 38 and have 12 out of 24 upgrades. I am not some gal with 300 hours who has 50k req, 500 commons, 250 rare, 100 super and 250 medals in the bank. So I have a different view on it than those with 200-300 hours who are also lvl 70+.

Not exactly a fan that AH tries to placate those with just too much time tbh. Having 300+ hours in a game that came out two months ago roughly is kinda ridiculous. Don't take it as an offensive comment or anything, thanks-

The cost is outrageous, but well, it gives purpose for people with maxed out samples...so bad they don't give us back all the samples we collected past the cap, like the XP one.

I bought the support weapons one and I think the fire and arc buffs are going to be good. And I like turrets and eagles so a small buff to them will be nice.

It's fine, finally something to spend samples on, even though upgrades are negligible

I'm shocked they increased the level cap but made no changes to collectibles like Samples. It's nice to get more things to spend them on, but it'd be equally nice to just not have a maximum number in the first place so there's not an issue of being at capacity anyways. Seems like it's more there to prevent people playing and just instantly buying all the newest upgrades and battle pass content too quickly.

Its an absurd cost and grind to put on something that objectively makes you stronger.
♥♥♥♥ all the "casuals" who don't sit on the game 8 hours a day i guess, even better is that the grind can and will only get exponentially worse from here on out.........
Paps() Apr 11, 2024 @ 7:20am
This wasn't the kind of money sink people were interested in.
This is just another tier that people will eventually cap again.
Fizzie Apr 11, 2024 @ 7:25am
Definitely overpriced especially for common/rare costs. And 3 of them are fighting for lowest priority, so ill just grind for the second upgrade then coast.
Fractured Apr 11, 2024 @ 7:26am
My issue is the f'n cap, I'd have probably 1000 rare samples by now. But because of the stupid cap, I can't even buy 2 new modules. It really hurts my want to play the game, when the cap f's you so quickly.
Kaiser Apr 11, 2024 @ 7:27am
50% less explosive damage fake...still 1 rocket from any robo and turret blow up 0+50%=0
