There's no way they playtested the heavy machine gun
On its own it's a ♥♥♥♥ weapon, when compared to other weapons it gets outclassed by miles.

Really what is this weapon's purpose lol

It's great at going through ammo!
That's about it.

It's pretty nice for CQC, but for some reason AH want to forced us to use their godawful First person mode for this, this could have been a decent MG without that.

everything in the game is designed with function. not only individually but as a team.

machine guns lay great constant fire with large magazines. good for spraying and clearing smaller enemies. or for example shooting the back of a tank to deal a lot of quick dmg.

I will say the autocannon is probably overall better for multifunction and on the spot dmg. but it has a backpack requirement to reload unlike the machine gun. so take some leave some.

everything is good if you use it at the right time in the right way.

How does playtesting the heavy machine gun address the issues with Helldiver 2's lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues? There are much more pressing issues at hand in this game. Weapons and gameplay are secondary to the message of inclusive equity we need to show in solidarity with those who feel alienated and left out of the safe environment we can create and foster in this game. If anything the future may be making the game less challenging and more accommodating for players who are unable to enjoy the game, such as removing the difficult "basic training" tutorial which bars and unfairly gatekeeps the game from play challenged players. Please understand that while you may want weapons in this game, we must first address the inadequacies and bridge the unnecessary skill gaps for players to ensure everyone can play equally and fairly.

Close quarters combat, you know shotgun range fighting.
This thing poor recoil and accuracy can be negate by peeking corner with it.
Since it armor pen and damage can RIP every medium targets.

I'd agree with you... if it had a large magazine. 75 is definitely not enough when you can grab a stalwart with like 250 rounds or whatever it has that's like 200+

I'm going to imagine you run light armor without the recoil passive because that's what reddit told you to do, put the gun on the highest fire rate because "faster bullets makes things deader faster" and then fail to do anything meaningful with it at all.

If you actually hit properly, you can take out things like hulks with only a few well placed shots. It's not a great weapon but your post guarantees you have no idea how to use it.

The HMG is the Harley-Davidson motorcycle of the armory.

HD: There's nothing better at turning gasoline into smoke and noise.

HMG: There's nothing better at turning ammo into recoil and muzzle flash.

stalwart is miles better for smaller enemies
anti material rifle is miles better for shooting backs of tanks

LOL.
Yeah, I mean it's still a pretty bad gun and we are better off with a better thought out gun.
But it's not totally useless...kinda.

I used it with the light armor that has recoil reduction, still ♥♥♥♥
outclassed by every other similar weapon

I think I might have found the one good use-case for the HMG.

The new bot defense mission, the one that plays like Helm's Deep, with the multiple rows of gates and defensible positions as you hold out while 8 rockets get launched?

When the difficulty is high enough and Dropships are dropping nothing but medium and heavy armor stuff at you, being able to just sit atop one of the walls and spray down hate into a small confined killing zone that all the enemies funnel themselves into? Then sure, being able to just mag-dump the face of a Hulk at 50 meters away (and anything else around it) is now a viable use case in this scenario. Just drop yourself a Supply Pack, then walk back and take cover behind the impervious walls whenever you need to reload.

In any other open space scenario, I'd rather reach out and touch someone with the Autocannon.
