Different planet types?
I dont know. The planets seem very... Empty. Uninhabited almost. Like we're fighting on a desolate planet. I was just kinda spitballing at some ideas to make the planets feel less like an empty sandbox and more like a planet worth dying on in the name of democracy!

Template 1: City/Urban zones.
I feel like fighting bugs in a desolate hive-infested city or an entire mechanized city against the bots would be amazing, and would allow more creativity into enemy types, patrol spawning as well as giving a fun challenge to sniper gameplay.

Template 2: Acid/Lava pits.
Maybe on some of the black/red planets we can have volcanoes with lava lakes and such? And maybe for green just do an acid palette swap?

Template 3: Underground zones.
This is more of a new mission type. An example would be invading a bug tunnel to kill the a queen and harvest the oil. Then each Helldiver has to extract carrying an oil vat while clearing bugs in the tunnel.

it would be cool if we could encounter random survivors during missions

Imagine how Template 1 and 3 work with the current way stratagems work.

template 1, id say you cant call in airstrikes (from the pelican or whatever its called again). but u can still call in weapons and strikes from the ship (idk what their called)

template 3. so id guess that when u select the machine gun and guard dog stratagems, u start off with the stratagems inside the tunnel or u spawn outside the hole that is leading to [objective] in which u get to call in ur weapons before entering.

I won't deny the ideas are neat, but as far as I remember, the devs are on record saying they want us to rely on strats more, and the way the game plays, most of the players probably wouldn't enjoy having their options limited by what map they pick... More than said maps already do so at least.

You can definitely forget template 3, that would require way too much change for the game to handle since stratagems are orbital assistance only.

And what do you think we are to get stuck underground ? Dwarves? :steammocking:

Template 1 is unlikely unless fights get to Super earth, would be a cool change (please don't report it to any democracy officer) , yet building could be a pain for air support.

Template 2 would be nice, hazardous liquids could be fun.

Chest high water not hazardous enough for you? /S, J
Yeeah, it would be kinda neat to see lakes of other stuff, even if the end result is the same.

If it doesn't put you on fire just for getting near to it, or doesn't poison you for getting into it, then it's not hazardous enough :beatmeat:

Urbanized, or at least more settled maps could be interesting, maybe there is space for them further away from the border. Not that having Helldivers come through will do anything good to the property values or the skyline.

Fully enclosed maps are going to be a non-starter though unless you drastically change how the game works.

planets with weird gravity
Template 3 would simply need mild revamp of stratagems. Disallow eagle/orbital and make hellpod drop simply drill/punch through the planets crust.
Template 1 maybe have collateral and civilian casualties penalties or legitimately don't care about casualties or collateral. They don't care if you kill helldivers and get minor penalties on civilian deaths already.
EDF handles underground missions just fine and it's more primitive than this game, the devs could handle it just fine.

Yeah, kinda weird that every planet we drop on has similar to Mars gravity

but the enemies in EDF are giant asf compared to what HellDivers deal with. and they deal with them on a daily basis. i think it would take time for the HellDivers to adjust their weaponry/stratagems to fighting underground.
