My group will not start an Op that has this type of mission in there and most of them have it. It needs fixing.
Regardless of the grammar though, the essential personnel mission does in fact suck. Nothing is more boring that sitting in one spot to spam all your weapons to kill an endless spam of bots or bugs.
It's even more confusing when you consider that they have a superior version of the same mission where you have 2 sub-objectives and then you save 30 personnel on difficulty 9, but have a huge map to work with. Plus you can stealthily help them escape in that mission.
The only way to use stealth in the Personnel mission is to have 3 people off base drawing the aggro and bot drops/bug breach meanwhile someone at base just opens the doors.
I hope they get rid of these boring defense missions, I don't want to play on a map that's as big as the local Walgreens, I want those huge maps to roam around in.
I feel you OP.
It ain't boring though since it constant action. You need to start good early and not fall behind. It could use a decrease in required personnel though.
The alternative method of completing these missions is to have three of the team cause a ruckus away from the camp and have one person triggering the civ evacs by themselves.
i've done both methods. EMS mortar method is more prone to danger/failure, but more fun imo.
It's boring in the way that you just accept loss is very likely with bad spawns. Maybe you get lots of tanks or titans just mass up on you, well that's that good luck lol or worse cuz let's be honest there is worse then that lol
Then you give up and it's boring, we often do those missions first just so we don't fail the third streak and if it bites us to much we just leave to a non defnece map not our problem lol
That's boring especially for the 1 left to do it
this is where the HGM emplacement comes in handy.
you can kill everything with that bad boy.
bots -> everything except tanks, factory striders
bugs -> everything except chargers, bile titans
that's where the EAT come in handy...
it also pays off, if someone has a normal machine gun (i tend to use the stalwart and get a high position, and the scorcher for those nasty things that are a bit heavier armored)
then mark every charger, tank or those walker/titans and have you guy buddy with the quasar, EAT or recoilless on standby to take those out.
tesla towers also have a nice impact vs bugs - place them on a rock and watch the show.
those also work vs bots, if you put it behind a corner and have those things walk facefirst into them to get zapped
These missions can spiral out of control pretty fast, that is true. bt then just don't push any buttons, run outside the buildings, try to kill as many and when it's somewhat calmer, you can get back to evacuating.
But they are not impossible and this reeks a lot of 'skill issue'
The map is so massive for a 15 minute mission with that many POIs scattered around that it's clear you're intended to split up and have at least one guy going for POIs.
