It probably has its place somewhere in the gameplay loop, but I think anything the HMG can do, the MG or Stalwart can do just as well if not better

Unfortunately the HMG is just in a really really bad place. Low clip, very unwieldy to use, limited dps based on that, suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper long reload time.
Two gems being needed would offset the power of the combo. While also offering the freedom to go without it if you so choose.
