Why is my character so slow when walking/sprinting?
This is something that makes a huge difference for me. I get that the gunplay is not tight and reactive as other shooters and thats ok but the movement speed always feels so sluggish, drawn out and almost useless when running toward or away... Is this normal? I hope they bring more QoL improvements to the movement in the game so it doesn't feel so floaty/unresponsive at times when moving.

Edit: After watching some YT videos, I noticed better movement in most cases... I think the skills and the enhancement drugs will make a difference when I get them.

Armor and terrain affects movement speed. And some environmental effects does this too.

Mud, water, deep snow, bushes, razor wire and etc. slows movement and inhibits sprinting.

Heavy armor confer movement speed and stamina penalty

Blizzards, Tremors and etc. which affect map at random periods also cause movement penalties, Blizzards being constant when happening, while Tremors cause temporary slow and depletion of stamina.

There might be more stuff, since I got in this game at just beginning of April...
Yeah I got it recently too - Thats a LOT of things that negatively impact your movement... Again, kind of hope the devs listen to this and develop the movement further for it to feel better.

Scout armor will give you the most movement. The armor has stats. Also, the environment can slow you down. I typically take the running stick man skill, I forget the name. It helps with movement and stamina.
I will try that skill then when I get it as well

You are aware that you need to manually stop the sprint to get your stamina back? If you don't, your character keep running while being out of breath until you stop moving.

Sure - its more due to the sluggish nature of movement and a lack of tight gameplay for me.

True - BUT a strong soldier has training to move at a decent pace with armor. I did wear light & medium and it seems it is more of a movement issue as well as actual speed... Now, of course, this is a video game where anything is possible so they can do better mechanics for movement... Why havent they? Don't you agree?

Helldivers gets 1 day of training...

get the 50 armor rating suits, its the fastest you gonna get.
some planets slow you down.

And maybe 2 days on the battlefield before being slaughtered... we are quite an expendable lot, driven mad with democratic idealism.

Assuming there isn't some game mechanic you weren't paying attention to, I rather enjoy Helldivers movement system. It's slow and clunky, and has a lot of weight behind it, which makes sense considering you are wearing a full suit of armor, carrying a rifle, a sidearm, a bigass gun, a backpack, and ammunition for all of it. You shouldn't be able to dodge lasers with all that equipment. Also, while you certainly move slower while running compared to other games, you also can sprint for far longer. Sprinting for 30 seconds with all that equipment is no joke. You don't even stop after that, you just move slightly slower.

It felt better before the .202 patch - I don't know if I'm imagining it but seems like the effect of terrain on physics especially slopes and certain types of surfaces has been exaggerated slightly and sometimes I'm really slowing down even when sprinting on certain slopes also seems like they've slightly slowed down the turning rate of some weapons - which overall makes the game feel heavier and sluggish compared to before and regardless of intentions it just makes the game feel meh to play sometimes (changing away from certain weapons I was using, such as the Jar-5 Dominator, reduces it a bit).

armor/terrain
general brash does comment on his quips about bushes, waters, and muddy terrain and how you should avoid them for traversal

Hmm I think that is a valid point and I assume the movement has been dumbed down to increase difficulty as with proper reflex-based movement I think everyone would wipe out all Automatons and Bugs with no issue lol. I prefer a different type of difficulty factor... while keeping the controls tight and responsive. I hope they address this because it would make the game so much sweeter to play.

Muscle Enhancement pretty much negates everything except big bushes and a few other things.
