how to fix update blocked

steam says it cant access files,
ive tried repair steeam library, check helldivers files, run steam as administrator, restart the computer of course, but still cant, this is the second time in a row it happens and i dont want to have to reinstall the whole game every update, does anyone knows a sure way on how to fix this issue? thank you in advance!

What antivirus are you using?

never installed one so probably windows default one

Do this in this order:

1. Clear Steam Download Cache
2. Restart PC
3. Download the update
4. If it downloaded successfully, verify the files afterwards

If not, repair Steam Library then start again from step 1

ill try that thank, you, gonna take a bit of time tho since i tried reionstalling and even this blocked, so gonna try with this specific order and see, thank you for the help!

Reinstalling never help in such a situation. Because if it blocks the update, then it also means it will block reinstalling. That makes it important to identify what blocks it.

For most players it is a matter of simple permission misunderstandings.
Ever used Word? Try deleting a file you are currently using, or play and MP3 and try deleting it - it gets blocked while in use. Same with Helldivers 2. You closed the game but it is not fully closed -> block update and overwritings.

In rare cases it is internet security blocking Steam from downloading stuff, but it makes no sense. Because if it does, then you could not have installed it to begin with.

So the best is as instructed, as it goes to the essential files. If the issue persists afterwards, then we keep looking for you.

ye it just last time as i basically tried all the methods i found online and still didnt work i tried reinstalling and it worked so i tried this time too, helldivers rlly the only game i have this issue tho idk what causes it exactly :/

I suspect you have a bad Windows settings. There are two major reasons for that.

a) the anti-cheat

b) the bad setting where Windows does not properly shutdown

You can check if you remember turning off fastboost or whatever it is called (I do not know the French term, sorry)

I am glad it worked out for you!

My advice for the future:

- disable auto-update for the game / in general in Steam
- whenever you see the game is ready for an update: RESTART YOUR PC FIRST
- then update the game

restarting your PC first is the best you can do to prevent anything from getting stuck. Many people have the issue because they play a lot, never restart, and then the update gets stuck. So if you disable auto-updates, then restart before updating, you should be always good.
