Yes great that you found out for what dificultys usually exist different skill levels :) but dificultys in HD2 are just "more enemy types or less"
Another big piece of advice is don't feel the need to fight every enemy you see. Retreating from a fight can more often be better than winning a fight.
Either let them get accustomed with it some more or if they have no fun playing at all just let them be.
The difference between the difficulties is in what enemies you face, and the number of enemies you face. Run trivial missions with your wife and daughter so they get a better feel for the game. When they get a handle on how things work bump it up to D2's so they can start easing into objectives and how the bugs react to them.
It is also important to keep in mind that winning a mission only requires completing the main mission objective, it does not require surviving to extraction.
Stay calm, keep at it. The difficulty level system works well, and the trivial mission are quite doable.
That said, the difficulties might benefit from a bit of a spawn adjustment. For example, D3 doesn't get normal Charger spawns, only the specific kill quest IIRC, but on D4 Chargers are in practically every breach and outpost. It's not unusual for there to be more than one charger attacking the group, which seems like a huge step up in difficulty for a game with 9 of them. Similarly, I haven't seen many spewers in D3 but they seem pretty common in D4 too.
Sorry, but the devs have better things to do. Like keep the game from burning to the ground, or maybe they could try to introduce no new bugs in their next patch and actually solve some instead.
Find some more neutral hobbies to spend time with your family. Even just some easier games, like Deep Rock Galactic or Orcs Must Die if you really want to drag them into your hobbies.
If they want to get them into Co-OP shooters then something like Deep Rock Galactic might be a better option.
