1 had customization options for the weapons, only had one sample type and a bit faster cool down on strategems BUT the alerts were harder and more emphasis on stealth.
2 less customization options for the weapons, more sample types (3) for upgrading ship components, passive buffs (versus the weapon/item upgrades in 1), easier to deal with due to being third person (wasn't so great with the twin stick shooter stuff in 1 but loved the game anyway).
That said, they are both good games in their own right. But i personally enjoy 2 more. Helldivers 1 IS absolutely worth trying out though
Both games are 3D, first one was top down shooter, IMHO it had its charm, and was more focused on co-op. IMHO HD1 was more fun.
HD2 is a horde shooter and not a good one. Apart from 3D first person perspective and ability to separate from your squad, and MTX, it didn't add anything new to the game.
HD2 has less weapons, less upgrades, less enemies (one whole alien race is missing), only one Mech, no APC, shared ammo supplies / boxes drop.
And whole bunch of software bugs.
Though, HD1 is almost dead game now.
I only know HD1 from YT videos, but from what I saw, I think it is an overall better designed game than 2 with its elements be in better balance than here. It seems to be more focused on combat (which is good, bc. thats what the games are about), more dense and faster, less time wastey.
The obvious drawback is the progressed and diminished playerbase, and the technical age it has cumulated.
All in all, however, I probably wouldn't recommand both of them over other games, like BG3 or the upcoming Elden Ring Expansion.
