Is the community friendly with new players ? (...and in general)
Hi, i hesitate to buy this game mostly because i fear that the community might become (or already is) annoying.

I read alot of topics talking about players that just kick you if you don't play as they want you to, which in my opinion ruins the enjoyment to play a co-op game.
I mean, trying new, even bad gear/weapons/abilities is very fun to me in those games and some players tend to take games way too seriously.

So i wonder :

1/ Is that's a common thing in Helldivers 2 to be kicked (and/or insulted) because you're a newbie or not good enough or even if you haven't selected the "right" gear ?

2/ Is the community mostly friendly with newbies, give advices instead of pushing you to play wahtever gear is the most OP ?

this happens at the endgame for most, if not all, multiplayer pve based games, especially if you can pug
the lower difficulties are pretty amicable, it seems to be either newbies or "good" players playing something intentionally "easy." I've been kicked once and it was 100% due to joining a public game that was meant for friends only, and this is because they said it over voice chat (and apologized in advance lol). haven't done much in higher difficulties but I'd imagine you'll run into those kind of standard toxic terminal gamers. don't run pugs and it'll be fine

this depends mostly on your willingness to accept incoming advice/criticism
learn the game's mechanics first and optimize gear later, you won't need to do so for a while anyway

You can't be kicked if you are the host. However ...

I've mostly played with friends or solo (friends-only can join).
I closed it for non-friends after my first random "help" proceeded killing me on purpose as soon as it spawned.
Solo is slower but fine.
I've only been kicked maybe 3 times, the last one was justified because my crap aim kept killing civs on a rescue mission. But otherwise I've never ran into a toxic lobby for the most part, toxic players? Maybe one or two.

However, with that said, it is a P2P game. It depends on who's queuing around you. Some days you can probably find the best teams you'll ever play with, some days you may be stuck with people who have no idea what they're doing. Random experience is random.

Overall though, I'd say it's pretty friendly and you can pace yourself with difficulties.

Stay with the group and don't go right away in higher difficulties and you will be perfectly fine.

Large community means you get the works. Some people being chill and friendly, and some people having committed multiple warcrimes IRL.

It's a pretty mixed bag.

No. Even the dev team has taken multiple opportunities to separate hard core gamers from casual ones.

They even took the time to refer to popular strategies as braindead.

Players in-game kick or team kill for certain cosmetics, items or players levels pretty frequently

It is a very gatekeep heavy game.

Played 20 hours with randoms and it was always fine. Was kicked a few time, but it was always almost immediate so it didn't even cost me time.

Also I discovered that you progress way faster by joyning random game, because you often join when it's almost finished and get a high reward for 10 min of gameplay instead of 40min.
I guess it will compensate for a few frustrations in the future.

In 230+ hours I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been kicked. And they were all almost definitely people that had their matchmaking set to public but were trying to play with friends. They all happened within seconds of me joining the ship. And one person even went on coms and explained as such.

I really don't understand all the kick threads. One could argue I've just gotten lucky. But odds would dictate that I would have experienced at least some level of this toxic kicking by now if it was even nearly as prevalent as all the threads in this forum make it seem.

I'm fairly convinced a lot of these threads are either trolls, or someone experiencing one bad scenario and coming on here and making it seem like it happens all the time.

Lol, never encountered that and I only play with randoms... If they kill you maybe you are the problem...

It really depends on whom you ask. I got lucky on the official discord. Found a nice and very good mentor. Soon after I joined a "clan". Now I can enjoy daily great parties together, have people to talk about the game with, and pretty much no toxicity.

In comparison reading through 96% of the forums posts here on Steam makes me want rather to clean a public toilet instead.

There were multiple reports of people being killed for wearing the new cape

People were also being kill for bringing mortars, a viable and powerful tool

Anyone with Google can confirm this. The game is fun, but it isn't friendly to people who play wrong or don't follow the lore/community closely

Started the game like few weeks ago and 0 kicks for being newbie. Had some kicks for idk reasons during midgame. Wanna 0 kicks at all? Be a host. Noone will scream at you if you are low level.

I see, thanks for the repplies.

Seems pretty random, and that the toxicity comes from threads more than the actual game :steamsalty:

The Steam forum is way more toxic than the average player in-game. A lot of people coming to the forum complaining about horrible teams constantly kicking them probably aren't being honest about what exactly happened. Certainly, toxic players exist, but they aren't nearly as common as this forum would have you believe.
Mini Apr 6, 2024 @ 2:22pm
The community is super friendly outside of forums and such. I’ve met less than 3 toxic players in my 200 or so hours in this game so far.

The forums, however, are pretty vile. Lots of whining and finger pointing and very little productive discussion.

It's not that i don't want any kicks, it always happens from times to times and that's okay.
But if it was a common thing, which doesn't seem to be the case apparently, it would be pretty annoying.

But, reading the repplies, i'm pretty reassured
