PSA: Do not use asynchronous compute in the graphics options
Even on low end PCs it reduces fps by around 10-12 fps. I tested this on my 4090/7800X3D desktop and my Lenovo Legion Go and performance was worse. It says that it could improve performance on certain systems and make performance worse on others but I don't know what systems this would improve if it didn't help my Legion go which uses a Z1 Extreme APU.

Fake.

It tells you you may experience gain or decrease in performance depending on system.

I know that’s why in my post I clearly stated that. Did you read anything I posted? My question is what systems does this help because I’ve got a top of the line desktop and a much weaker handheld. Neither see performance benefits.

you are on an Nvidea card, I think this may help AMD cards, not Nvidea. On my 4070ti Super it dropped performance. Will get back if I can get someone with an AMD card to test

I tested with GravityMark on a 7900xtx. In this benchmark I got better performance with compute shaders enabled.

Best advise --- turn it on and just check the FPS in game for yourself.

My Legion go uses the AMD Z1 extreme APU though.

Compute shaders? That’s not what I’m game async compute does. Has zero to do with shaders. It basically takes load off of your cpu and puts more on the gpu.

Just because

Doesn't mean you shouldn't use asynchronous compute in the graphics options. Learn how to title your damn posts.

Laptop? I didn’t mention my laptop anywhere here you reject. It’s probably better than your desktop though.

Negative, loses FPS on my AMD card too.

It might depend on what AMD card you are using, perhaps older gen cards benefit more that are AMD?

I7 13700KF
64Gb DDR5 6400Mhz
12Gb OC RTX 4070
Samsung 990 pro 4Tb M2
Display set to 60Hz 4k (3840x2160)

Two games on EASY.

Game 1: CPU peaked at 64c and GPU at 73c

Game 2: CPU peaked at 60c and GPU at 72c

Can you guess which one had Async Compute ON and which one was OFF?

I use it on steamdeck to somewhat compensate for the poor cpu, but i'm not sure if it really helps.

Tests here and there are other videos testing this to back my claims that it hurts performance. https://youtu.be/2RWaemEI_8U?si=Alh1LzCDa96VF8gx
