Shaders are pretty intensive, DX11 uses less stuff.
The main issue this game has is, they dont optimize it at all, it was optimized on release last time. So in case you are running older hardware, you should count Memory Leaks in with DX11, which will cause MORE Heat and could even cause crashes in longer Sessions.
In case you run newer Hardware, you will see a HUGE visual difference in DX12 when it comes to Lighting, Particle Effects and volumetric Clouds. Benchmarks will also show you that these things are using your GPU and CPU better, especially the CPU Performance is glaring!
DX11 is a cool Workaround in case people have driver issues and are unable to start the game or similar issues, ANCIENT hardware is also able to run it in DX11, since it is not very demanding apart from the Anti Cheat Scans.
A simple Benchmark will show you all these details. Use DX12 please. You will get better results after all these Patches! You will find an option for Asynchron Compute at the bottom of your Ingame Settings, please test if this helps you enabled or even disabled, it changes the way the GPU and the CPU work together.
