There can be more than one LMG in existence. Perhaps they plan on making something else that would be an MMG, or not have anything designated MMG at all. I'm perfectly fine with the 43 being an MMG though... if we can mount it to things.
I kept seeing people refer to the MG-43 as a LMG.
You're right that a military can dictate whatever they want, however in universe canon has, afaik, only referred to the MG-105 as a LMG. Also in terms of doctrine and application, even the description makes reference to the fact that the MG-43 is generally a stationary gun that has been adapted for portability.
Since we don’t know the caliber, it might actually fire a bullet thats too small for HMG class
