Really depends on the loadout i am planning for. When i am doing an AT role and know i can rely on my team to deal with medium armored enemies (like if we have someone with MG or Autocannon) then using a Light Armor penetrating weapon is preferable to me, as it allows me to deal with the chaff you wouldn't want to waste more valuable ammo on.
When i am going with a light armor penetrating weapon, i generally always bring the Senator along. It's medium armor penetration makes it useful to switch to when i have to deal with Medium armor like Hive Guard on my own (and can't flank them)
Hive Commanders are also easily dealth with, with light armor piercing, simply by removing the limbs instead of shooting the head.
For bots the Weakspot, even on Medium Armored enemies tends to be Light Armor, so it really makes no difference.
When i am going in with a chaff killing weapon like an MG, i tend to also only bring a Light Armor penetrating weapon, as i feel my job is Chaff killing anyway.
Against Bots i do definitely like Medium Armor penetrating weapons much more than Light Armor.
When i am going in as a Support... then its also always Medium Armor pentration and something like a Flamethrower, Autocannon, Railgun or Antimaterial Rifle.
Really comes down what my job on the team is going to be.
They could delete the armor system and the game would instantly be more fun exactly as it is now without being "100% easy" either. Hunters would still jump on you. It would still take like 2 mag dumps of Liberator to kill a Hive Guard, except you actually COULD kill it. Etc. There is no justifiable reason for it to exist.
What's the difference between letting me kill a Bile Titan with 2 Stalwart Mags or 2 EAT shots? Make the game fun. Obviously it would be less efficient to use the Stalwart than the EAT, so "roles" would still ostensibly exist, but you COULD do things inefficiently for FUN if you wanted to. Or even contribute to situations where your loadout isn't optimal. For example why does someone who is a 'trash sweeper' simply not get to damage armored enemies? That's not fun at all. They don't have to be AS GOOD as the armor-killers, but surely they should at least be able to contribute?
PS: bonus shout-outs to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ fog covering every single map (to hide patrol spawns and improve console frame rates I imagine) and everything that breathes on you flinching/stun locking the player.
You can kill it with a Liberator. Aim for its "arms" or get it to turtle and then walk around it and shoot its shrimp tail.
No justifiable reason you would accept. There are justifable reasons for it to exist. Like added gameplay challenge. Having to flank enemies and the like to get more opportune angles of attack, etc.
The difference is that one would be an all purpose solution and thus making any other weapon obsolete and the other is a highly specialized Anti Tank weapon, that needs to be fired at a very specific spot and will never, ever, be an all purpose solution.
Has this really not occurred to you? I am perplexed.
Your definition of fun is not my definition of fun. I do not want there to be only a single gun that solves every problem.
I do need more than a Hammer in my tool box. There should be other tools, that shine in the right circumstance... and you should need to bring more than just a Hammer for every problem you encounter on the field.
The game was F-ing boring when everyone was just wearing Breaker, Railgun and Shield backpack.
The game was the most fun when my premade actually had good reason to form weapon teams and diversify our loadouts.
And i get that your definition of fun seems to be "i want that one thing that solves all my problems with ease"... but that doesn't work for me. That is utterly boring.
