"Spitz is a hero"
This CM drama turntables more than ace attorney games.
You can't keep moving the goalpost....
Though their comment was used as a helpful standard in the fight, it was going to be done by the PC players anyways, and ultimately doesnt make up for the unprofessionalism and previous strikes the individual had with AH as the CM. This was strike 3. The CMs must meet the required standards as a public voice for the company.
It is arguable whether or not they wouldn't have relented if Spitz didn't do what he did but regardless of what that answer is there is not a shadow of doubt that whatever chance of success this plan for PSN integration had was utterly destroyed by that spotlight.
Either way the people whom this concerns don't actually care about things that benefit the Helldiver community and someone being punished for it. That isn't their principle. They care that he was woke or something and that alone justifies the petty reasons Sony had for this and nothing else.
Nah, people working in the industry all knew their goose was cooked the moment they told the players to do that. Its no different than a low level manager telling customers to boycott a store's parent company when customers were already furious with it's actions. They spoke out against their boss's boss in this case, only giving a bit of fuel to the fire. Spitz's words werent the reason Sony was pushed back, players were just as capable of doing so without their words.
Remember the infamous Boycott Modern Warfare 2 Steamgroup screenshot where 90% of the members are shown with
In-Game
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?
I think it is completely plausible that Sony could have brushed this off with enough time.

"Firstly, I am impressed by the willpower of the @helldivers2 community and your ability to collaborate.
Secondly I want to thank our partners and friends at @PlayStation for quickly and effectively making the decision to leave PSN linking optional.
We togheter want to set a new standard for what a live game is, and how developers and community can support each other to create the best game experiences."
So the creative director is applauding fans for rebelling, saying it sets a new standard for live-service gaming and they fire their community manager for encouraging this "new standard"?
If that's not hypocrisy and stolen valour I don't know what is.
