Sony really lucked out with getting revenge on Spitz
Someone is definitely furious that their out of touch plan to make PSN engagement numbers go up to dangle in front of investors like a shiny set of keys got called out, and it is obvious that is why he got fired.

At least whoever they are can have the consolation of knowing that there will be no shortage of people defending this petty action because something something woke something something rainbow.

"We hate spitz"

Its the birdman libeling public figures who needed to go, this Spitz guy was actually trying to get leverage to remove the PSN requirement which makes him a GOOD GUY.

Considering the unprofessionalism showed by Spitz in the middle of all of this, instead of stepping back and letting the storm blow, they spoke against the players in ways no community manager should, and they did what pretty much hasnt been seen by a *hired* employee of a company under contract; tell the customers to work against the owner of the IP and try to undermine their golden goose. Spitz's job with AH was pretty much dead the moment they told players to review bomb the game to give leverage to AH.

Though their comment was used as a helpful standard in the fight, it was going to be done by the PC players anyways, and ultimately doesnt make up for the unprofessionalism and previous strikes the individual had with AH as the CM. This was strike 3. The CMs must meet the required standards as a public voice for the company.

Oh please, I have seen companies like Sony muscle ♥♥♥♥ like this through with even bigger backlash than what this initially got and just wait it out countless times.

It is arguable whether or not they wouldn't have relented if Spitz didn't do what he did but regardless of what that answer is there is not a shadow of doubt that whatever chance of success this plan for PSN integration had was utterly destroyed by that spotlight.

Either way the people whom this concerns don't actually care about things that benefit the Helldiver community and someone being punished for it. That isn't their principle. They care that he was woke or something and that alone justifies the petty reasons Sony had for this and nothing else.

Nah, people working in the industry all knew their goose was cooked the moment they told the players to do that. Its no different than a low level manager telling customers to boycott a store's parent company when customers were already furious with it's actions. They spoke out against their boss's boss in this case, only giving a bit of fuel to the fire. Spitz's words werent the reason Sony was pushed back, players were just as capable of doing so without their words.

Funny you say this when often times players prove themselves to be incapable time and time again.

Remember the infamous Boycott Modern Warfare 2 Steamgroup screenshot where 90% of the members are shown with
In-Game
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?

I think it is completely plausible that Sony could have brushed this off with enough time.

The guy who actually did his job as CM and remained at his post while the rest went into hiding, was punished. Sad time indeed... We allow clowns to roam free and do whatever they want, including not doing their job...

the nail that sticks out gets hammered down sadly
The guy that insulted people and caused multiple dramas over the years was canned? Say it isn't so!

The Community Manager is fired while Johan Pilestedt, the creative director, takes to Twitter to say:

https://twitter.com/pilestedt/status/1787359650670600445?s=46

"Firstly, I am impressed by the willpower of the @helldivers2 community and your ability to collaborate.
Secondly I want to thank our partners and friends at @PlayStation for quickly and effectively making the decision to leave PSN linking optional.
We togheter want to set a new standard for what a live game is, and how developers and community can support each other to create the best game experiences."

So the creative director is applauding fans for rebelling, saying it sets a new standard for live-service gaming and they fire their community manager for encouraging this "new standard"?

If that's not hypocrisy and stolen valour I don't know what is.
