Thermite Grenades should have never been this weak.
So you trade the AoE you would usually get from grenades for what is supposed to be unmatched single target damage (relative to other grenades)...and you get:
  • Still demands you aim for weakspots...with a grenade...when the point of the thermite is to go through armour, not around it.
  • A sticky grenade that can in fact bounce.
  • Needing to throw more grenades than you have to slowly, maybe kill one target.
  • It's even terrible against light units.
  • Taking forever to make a whole lot of no discernable impact.
  • Does not seem to burn enemies, even with the fiery finale, but will burn you.

My take:
  • If you want to keep the flawed incentive of still trying to hit weakspots, using a tool that is supposed to penetrate armour enough that it doesn't matter - 2 thermite grenades to kill a Hulk, max. 1 if you get a lucky throw on the eye or stick the heatsink. Any more is simply asking too much.
  • Same for Tanks and Turrets.
  • 2-3-6 depending on where they land on a Fabricator Walker.
  • Between half and 1 grenade to blow up the ''glowing butt'' spot of every bug.
  • Should at least fully break the armour of a Charger wherever it lands.
  • Not sure what's a reasonable amount for Bile Titans since I haven't met them yet. (I just don't have fun playing vs bugs, so I don't, unless forced to; and I avoid getting forced to.)
  • 1 or less for any light-medium armoured unit. It shouldn't even need to get to the explosion on anything lower than a Berserker. It definitely shouldn't matter where it lands. And that it takes more than 1 to kill a Devastator right now is a crime. For Liberty's sake, they don't even flinch! Try to convince me you wouldn't flinch if you had a whole lot of thermite burning on your body!
  • Have it actually apply the burn effect to enemies - I don't care where it hits, if it can set us on fire in a split-second, it should set whatever it's in direct contact with for much longer on fire.

TL;DR: All the other grenades do their job in 1 or 2 throws, why shouldn't these?
PS: One of these days, wouldn't it be cool to have a minature tesla coil as a grenade? Similarly sticky, long duration, but for purpose of area denial.

Thermites are actually pretty good if you're the host. They can kill armored enemies in like two nades.

The problem right now is the DOT effect bug.

Apparently, DoT is not applied when you're not a host or so does the rumor say.

But than again, I had 2 of them kill annihilator tank(don't even bother with hulks).

Yeah Thermite needs a huge boost. People say 'it's the host DOT bug!' however I've been the host and used thermite. It sucks. It's only good at destroying structures (Like turret/mortar/aa guns) and I think some factory strider stuff. It's bad and likely bugged too. I remember one time throwing four of these on a devastator and it survived right up until the last one exploded. It's trash, probably bugged, and needs a buff.

There is a DOT bug? What else is managed democracy not telling me...
Also, have run with thermite while solo, don't see how anyone but me could have been hosting that, Devastator still doesn't die to 1 thermite and that should just not be a thing.

I think Thermites should be a 1hk but you only get a couple of em.

It's hilarious in a mundane way, isn't it? We can't tell if these are as bad as they are because of well-known preexisting bugs or because the developers continue implementing broken 'content' without testing. It's anyone's guess.

It does feel very dumb when you throw 4 of them and it either bounces or fails to kill even a basic charger.

Whats a bug and whats just awful balancing is impossible to tell anymore.

Yeah, thermite needs to be buffed something serious. When using it against bugs you practically have to climb into the bug hole yourself in order for them to be much use, and you can absolutely forget about using them against Automaton fabricators.

Yeah, in exchange for actually useful grenade like impact or stun, you get a crappy Dots that may or may not work and even when it work, it's still wasn't that good at anything.
