How do I play solo (private session) or have AI / bot team mate?

Hello, I am new to the game. I like playing games with friends etc but sometimes you want to relax and play solo or with AI team mates.

I think I would enjoy the game a bit more if there was a choice like this. Also maybe I missed something ( I am newbie to helldivers 2) but could I play solo and private session with no one able to join me?

You can't. The best you can do it set your lobby to friends only.

There is an option to switch your game to friends only. If you have no contact in your Steam friend list who play the game and did not add any friends directly into the game either then this effectively guarantee you a solo experience. Unless you use the SOS stratagem.

You can solo level 9 as well, of course you need a different approach.

Also dont be scared to join random to just have more fire power, i play random, without comms all the time and it goes smooth 99% of the time for me

I commonly solo difficulty 7 missions. Many people reported being able to solo difficulty 9 (highest) missions.

It is a whole different experience than playing as the game is intended. There is also some mission types I'd never do solo, like the civilian extraction mission and the "destroy 400 bots before leaving" ones.

It is not that I think they are absolutely impossible to accomplish solo but I'd rather not play those than to go thru the trouble and stress of trying to complete them. They are obviously geared toward a cooperating group. Any other mission on an open map tho? Easily done.

Yeah one of the reasons is "chatting, voice chat" etc :P Sometimes you just wanna play with out having to go through that stuff you know? :)

But yeah will give it a shot, you are probably right.

On this subject, the game has a nice token system. You can place those tokens on the map or you can just point at something and hit Q to tag them.

You can do whole missions without having to communicate verbally in this game. It is not really a problem.

You're gonna walk through fire and bathe in acid alone but you can do it and come out more capable for it.
I will say you should have one other person with you when the inevitable friendship bunker shows up. You don't have to be together the whole mission if you both plan to separately tackle objectives.
