Arrowhead: Gaming’s Trust Fund Baby
I recently spoke with someone who has a massive inheritance on the not-so-distant horizon. This person is/was a big advocate for “giving” and “helping” the community. Now, this person has never once done any charitable work or donated anything outside of an annual dumping of old clothes to Goodwill.

So with this not minuscule inheritance on the horizon, they have told me their plans of purchasing rental properties as advised by their new financial manager.

I’m not against making “your” money work for you, but I am very sensitive to people that have no self-awareness and are under the impression that the rest of us peasants aren’t smart enough to notice.

Why am I telling this extremely spite-filled story? Well, I couldn’t help but notice that Arrowhead displays the same general “snootiness” that trust-fund baby slacktivists do.

Arrowhead more or less inherited a large community of very unhappy gamers that were sick of being sold games that weren’t fun, weren’t functional, and just weren’t good in general. So, Helldivers 2, while not perfect, launched in a better state than 99% of modern games. It was fun. It was functional (for the most part…). And it was priced accordingly. Is gamers were pretty happy to say the least.

Unfortunately, Arrowhead have decided to take a very adversarial approach to the community.

You’re having fun? Oh no no… we can’t have that. NERF.

You’re succeeding too much. THREE STRATAGEMS ONLY AND DOUBLE ENEMY SPAWNS.

You’re enjoying dropping airstrikes? +100% DEPLOYMENT TIME.

Randoms being toxic. HERE HAVE AN ION STORM.

There seems to be no appreciation for what is a very dedicated community. Personally, I like this game so much that I don’t want to play anything else. During the Arc Weapon crashing fiasco, I just played nothing… there was no replacement for the enjoyment this game has provided to me.

My hope is that Arrowhead abandons this kamikaze mission to do destroy fun.

TL;DR: I’m stupid. I’m bad. Git gud. Skill issue. How dare I have an opinion on a game I purchased. Yeah, yeah…

I 100% disagree. If they started charging outrageous money on their monetization, that's when I'd agree.

Ikr… shame on me for advocating for fun in a PvE game…

Here's the problem, this post isn't about the game, you're directly insulting the people behind the game.

Pretty much this.

Arrowhead isn't new when it comes to making games. But they're...not very good at programming it seems.
Sounds to me that you don't like the fact that Arrowhead literally decided to make an actually truly difficult game, reminiscent of old-style arcade games. However, the devs also acknowledge and fix things that are too difficult, as they just halved the effect of stratagem cooldown and call-in time debuffs.

The more they've added and changed the game, the more I've tried out different loadouts and had more fun. You might need to rethink how you play games if you aren't having fun.

They planned on 10k players and got 300k active players.

Its a big jump to handle the expectations, when the team was sold on a 10k players game idea and doesn't like the 300k player launch state it was in.

I think it will balance out after a couple more months to more middle ground. If they pull a fatshark then they will get their sub 10k player base, but I think their CEO is too smart and community based to let it happen

The issue here is that you've decided you're the sole arbiter of how "fun" is or is not defined. You've framed this thread, and your responses, in such a way that you're unassailably right, and that anyone who disagrees is somehow "wrong" and "anti-fun."

While neither I nor anyone else will deny that the game has some issues, what you've listed here are nothing more than matters of personal taste and preference. You're not advocating for "fun" - you're advocating for YOUR idea of fun, and insinuating by snide responses that no one else knows what fun is. The daily player and sales counts stand in stark contradiction to your statements.

In the future, perhaps you might consider presenting these opinions as just that, rather than claiming to speak for everyone, and talking down to everyone else in the process.

I am confused.
So activists=Slacktivists.
However you are angry at trust fund babies?
Who rely on the current pre-existing system to succeed?
....Which means you want change?
Which means your post is activism......or as you call it, Slacktivism.

I can only laugh at this post tbh, I can't figure out wtf it's about.

I think it's just a Swedish game dev thing. They know how to make games, they just don't understand what makes them fun.
