500kg Bomb Looks Big, But It's Actual Blast Radius Is Small.
You can be pretty close to a 500kg bomb and not even get knocked back, let alone knocked down or take damage. Many enemies that are supposedly caught in the blast don't even seem to take any kind of partial damage.

It does look pretty cool, but as amazing as the blast looks, the actual blast itself is quite small.

I've seen it land pretty close to tanks and bile titans only for them to survive the blast.

It probably just me, but I'd like to see it's blast radius increase to match it's appearance. It's just so odd how close you can be and not be at any kinda of risk as opposed to a barrage strike or any of the other eagle strikes. Even the barrage gattling strike is far more lethal to you.

I still take the 500kg as one of my go-to stratagems, but it does feel just as much underwhelming as it does rewarding.

500KG Bomb!
It's sounds cool right?
Yes and thats all. It's basically 4 grenade with a huge explosion effect. Thats it. No more, no less. It's rediculous.

It insta kills anything and everything. 2 Bile Titans? No problem.

Really? Never saw that. When we throw that bs on a Bile titan and it explodes directly under it, the titan just casually walks towards us like nothing happened EVERY single time. One time the bomb literally WENT TROUGH the titan and explodes under it and nothing happened. Good job. That bomb is a joke and insta kills the pebbles under it. Nothing else.

The 500kg bomb feels incredibly out of place because it awkwardly tries to use realistic numbers.

During World War II, a 500kg bomb would instantly kill humans within 15 meters of the epicenter due to the blast, and the fragments would be lethal within 80 meters. You need to be at least 500 meters away from a 500kg bomb to ensure safety.

However, the 500kg bomb in this game seems to have the power of black powder wrapped in paper to avoid scattering fragments. I often see forum posts claiming that the guns are realistic, but the 500kg bomb doesn't have a shred of realism.

In this case, it would have been better to simply name it "large bomb" or something similar.

"Medium bomb" would be accurate, and its CD should be lower than "Big bomb" lol
lol We know even modern planes can drop 3-4000lb bombs.
Or explosives with much higher yield than the weight suggests if everyones thinking WW2 weight bomb/lower power explosives.

Are they honestly going to give soldiers a bomb they can throw but explodes so wide it can't be outran? No... so for vidya game purposes the radius is tiny on the biggest bomb. Sad.

Do you... do you just throw them at your feet on purpose? even doubling the radius of a 500 bomb would be safe distance without the throw bonus armor.

(45-50m is my usual "Landed it dead right on top of a factory" max range. but if it bounces off the side bad it can end out with the factory surviving. why throw them at factories? Can't kill them with an autocanon when you are behind them, duh!)

Indeed, in military terminology, "medium bomb" would be the correct term. However, when looking at the Eagle's armaments in the game, this bomb has the largest explosive power and blast radius per unit, and the aircraft carries a smaller number of them. So, I thought that "large bomb" might be a more appropriate name to represent the characteristics intended by the developers.

To be honest it's silly how far we can throw strategems sometimes.

Now that I think about it, it kind of reminds me of the WWII british bomb called 'The Grand Slam' where they pack a whole lot of explosives into it.

Uh oh it was a glancing blow, zero damage * depressing horn noise *

It should at least take out a medium nest if you place it between the bug holes. For a bomb that goes underground before exploding it's terrible at killing nests. But yeah it's also annoying when you see enemies walk out of the big flash.
Noctover 2. apr. 2024 kl. 2.27
The idea is that its a concentrated explosion for big boys, not crowd control; for that use airstrike.

Throw this on a Bile Titan
Stun grenade it
Watch it land on its face
Profit..?

The amount of strat preview videos of "Wow! so strong!" *footage shows how weak it is if you actually look closely* is insane, yeah.

Of little surprise, people who bother to bring the 500 bomb (myself included) are 99% people who have unlocked +1 eagle ammo.

One 500 bomb is not worth it. TWO per load however, can be a real time saver. More so if you have horrible luck with overhanging rocks blocking #1 most practical on average eagle airstrike. instead of getting that 3 nest/factory in one run jackpot

"The Bile Titan can no longer be stunned." lol, and then they add this lil nugget to the patch notes =P

I was reminded of the U.S. Navy's dynamite gun cruiser Vesuvius (lol).
