Heavy machine gun bad
Heavy machine gun bad, recoil too high, 750rpm and 1200rpm are completely goofy and just have no reason to be there. Reduce the damn recoil, make the gun actually fire where the red dot it, and remove the 750 and 1200 rpms. The only reason to ever use the HMG is to kill heavily armored enemies like hulks, but you can't do that when the gun doesn't hit where it's aimed and kicks like a hydraulic press.

no hit reg, no hip-fire reticle, it feels half baked

With a 1000 round belt it would be good I think. Also AP version.

They'll tweak stuff again eventually. Remember that we're essentially testers. Use what you like for now, another patch will come soon enough.

"soon"TM. Yeah yet another dev that treats a beta as a complete product.

For me the HMG has the perfect amount of punch per round, enough to pierce the heads of hulks and the vents of automaton vehicles, while still retaining an automatic fire rate. It's just that it feels too unwieldy to use. If I'm being honest, I don't know if I would even run the HMG as a primary if I could. At least the stalwart and the MG-43 are reasonable enough to handle that I probably would if I could.
I tried to make it work using fortified heavy armor for recoil reduction against bots. It's absolute trash. I've never died more in this game before than on that mission. I'm pretty skilled (you can believe me or not, idc, I'm just telling you) and I died 9 times. I was solo for a while, too slow and there's no ammo in it. It's really really bad right now. I'd rather have almost anything else besides maybe flamethrower against bots.

The one thing I will say was kinda ok about it was the ability to mag dump into the front of a hulk to kill it. But the thing is you can do that with a lot of weapons, especially autocannon which is a bot favorite.

You have to use it like AMR,burst shot at highest rpm for small amored unit. Dont use it on unarmored unit. Drill the weaks spot of heavy armor unit.
That is what i do and yes, it feel useless most of the times especially fighting bots

I think I'd like to see it changed to be a gun that has a large magazine but can't be reloaded, with a quick cooldown between call-ins, similar to the EAT rockets. The first game had a machine gun that worked that way. It lets you potentially have another support weapon that you use normally that you can pick up more ammo for, and then an expendable machine gun to call in for those special occasions. I guess the HMG emplacement is supposed to fill that role already, but from my limited experience with the HMG emplacement, it seems worthless in high level missions. You're a sitting duck for bug chargers and bot rockets. Maybe it would be alright against high level bots if you combine it with shield generator, but that would be 2 stratagem slots dedicated to something that might not help at all...

I can't hear you over the sound of reloading this thing.
They probably should've made reload for it a stratagem in itself. Maybe like 2846464628282828464646464646

Yeah, it's useless. The regular LMG is more controllable and the Stalwart has a wicked ROF and can be reloaded on the move. I can work around it and make use of it, but if I'm taking an MG? It's the regular LMG, then the Stalwart, and never the HMG.

I love the heavy damage it does, but yeah everything else about it feels uncooked and raw.
Cryptic Mar 31, 2024 @ 8:37pm
Hmg is really good if you use it correctly. Super effective on either front. Seems like people just don't understand how to use it.

Lower the rof, aim, short controlled bursts, profit.

I find this weapon with fortified armor at the lowest rpm to be good against bots. If the amount of bullets per mag was increased it would be a top pick for me.

Yes, i think they should make it to have massive ammo , unable to move while shooting but can reliably kill everything that is smaller than heavy armored enemy. Even having a team reload is good enough

Untrue. Heavy Machine Gun awesome :D
