Oddly enough the lock on felt janky to me at first too, then I stopped trying to use it when near the target. Get your distance, find high ground, and crouch.
- Reliable 1-hit-delete against any heavy target
- Dual mode function with standard auto lock and manual guidance (SACLOS, like the real TOW)
- Locks get spoofed by thick fog, ion storms, commissary flares
- Increased minmum range to hit
I see, so essentially, it should be just all-around more reliable and be more flexible with the dual lock-on and range.
For me, its still janky either way. I've stared dead on not moving at a fabricator about 150m away and it'd keep almost locking on before stopping. When it works, it works beautifully and I've managed a few stealth missions. When it doesn't, it's annoying
Spear has a very high chance of instantly killing a Hulk if shot from direct front or direct back, since the missile seems to be programmed to land in their weak spots
Spear is more reliable at killing Tanks than you think due to it being able to 1-shot a tank through it's turret roof. Proper distance and/or elevation is required to avoid hitting it's hull.
Spear can reliably destroy cannon towers (1-shot to the gun turret itself, not the inert tower) and very unreliably kill stratagem jammers due to the weapon having to see the base of the jammer which is often surrounded by walls and other obstructions.
Weather, smoke/spores, terrain, and inert emplacements such as bunkers, fences, etc can all prevent a lock with the Spear.
Spears can lock up to 300m.
A fluctuating lock that achieves a full lock, even for a split-second, is better than no lock at all, and having the the center dot (3rd person) or the center of the screen over the target (1st person) will grant more reliable locks.
garbage
4 ammo too ofc
Sure that's a super specific use, but a pretty good one.
