Thoeries about the Automatons

With Operation Swift Disassembly well underway, now is a good time to ponder on the nature of the Automations as we hopefully learn more about them in the coming days. I personally have 2 different theories about the Automatons.

1. What is their connection to the Cyborgs?
They use the same Communist Star symbol as the Cyborgs and their units frequently mention the Cyborg Capitol of Cyberstan. However, Cyberstan is currently under Super Earth control, with the Cyborgs themselves as said to be slaving away in the mines. That would imply that the Automatons are different from the Cyborgs. However, the Automatons know about the cyborgs, and admire them enough to emulate their style. Furthermore, the Automaton war effort seems to be fighting its way towards Cyberstan, rather than towards Super Earth like with the Terminids.

Putting all this together this is my theory. During the first war, the Cyborgs created some sort of self improving AI program to aid them on one of their outer planets, possibly Melevelon Creek. However, this program was unknown to Super Earth so it was never shut down when the Cyborgs were defeated and imprisoned on Cyberstan. After 100 years of improving itself, the AI became sentient. In a twist to the usual sentient AI horror story, the Melevelon Creek AI didn't rebel against its creator, but instead came to view them (The Cyborgs) like gods. And so the AI created the Automatons to rescue the Cyborgs from Super Earth's oppression by any means necessary.

2. What is their physiology/construction?
The Automatons are surprisingly human in their behavior. They get scared when you shoot at them, they like to sound off while marching, and some even have voice lines apologizing for attacking you. This could mean the Automatons are partly human, but how much human?

In some of their bases, you can find captured humans who appear to have had their heads/brains removed. However, no matter where you shoot an Automaton, they only ever seem to leak oil and scrap.

My theory is that Automatons are being controlled remotely by a human brain in a separate location, like a Titanfall Simulacrum. Automatons can still feel pain and human emotions. If their robotic body is destroyed, the brain controlling it is simply assigned a new one. The Automatons are harvesting new human brains in order to control more units at once.

Helldiver, you are thinking far too much about the Automatons, and in doing so, getting dangerously close to thought crime. For instance, the idea that Super Earth could not know something is preposterous. Either they knew and didn't tell us, because the interest of liberty didn't require we know, or it just isn't true.

But I've seen the brainless corpses of our citizens with my own eyes.

If the Automatons ARE forcing our citizens into a life of slavery and communism though the use of invasive surgeries and forbidden technology, then we must do everything in our power to put these citizens out of their misery once and for all.
