Heavy armor for bots?
Ive noticed that using light armor like i've been told against the bots is really ineffective, and i find myself oneshotted much more than against the bugs. i'm thinking maybe i should be running heavy? what are you guys thoughts on this

The heavy armor does work with bots, sometimes it even lets you survive a rocket even if you're not using the Fortified perk. It's largely personal preference though.

I see people around here saying to run heavy with explosive resistance, I don't know if it makes a difference, I don't run heavy.

I do however run hero of the federation for the 50% chance not to die when taking lethal damage. God it makes diff 7 so much more bearable, and gives me a fighting chance diff 9. I had earlier today where I got bounced around by 4 rocket devastators. I still died, but I survived getting bounced around long enough that I feel if a teammate could've helped me, I would've gotten a stem off and lived.

Heavy armor is useless for bugs, but it can be useful against robots as long as they don't headshot you.

Depending on the weapons I take I usually use light armor for bugs and medium/heavy for robots.

There are pros and cons but the short answer is this: armor doesnt do anything when that one rocket from a devastator/hulk head shots you. So you do you

Extra: Shield Generator pack is still very very good vs bots for the above short answer

Heavy is way more viable against bots than it is against bugs. For bugs, you need to dodge, not soak hits. Most bots will shoot at range, so you're gonna get hit eventually. Heavy with explosive resistance makes a real difference in your survivability, but it kills your mobility, especially on hot planets. You can't rely on running around to shoot the weakpoint on their back or anything like that. On the hot planets, medium with some kind of survivability passive might be a better choice than heavy.

IMO light armor vs bots seems to be mostly for stealth builds or farming D1-2 PoI loot.

I switched to heavy against bots with the heart booster and now I die significantly less than those around me.

Should also add that i use slugger shotty and autogun so the bigger enemies stagger instead of shooting at us.

I feel like I get the best overall results from armor with "Democracy Protects" against bots.

I only ever use light armor. Bugs or bots. Being able to move is nice

Honestly, mobility is a bigger life saver than armor that can be negated by head shots.

I feel like bots on higher difficulty is like playing Metal Gear Solid. You sneak around and complete most of your objectives by sneaking up and throwing an orbital barrage.

There are light armour suits with stealth buffs and the extra stamina helps me escape if I ♥♥♥♥ up my stealth.

Light armor with the fortitude passive + shield generator pack = bot eradicator :)

Heavy armor should be used for eradication missions. Against bots ideally medium with explosive protection.

It's really a tossup on effectiveness, but generally you can still be one-shot in heavy armor by many things. It may save you from a nearby explosive or a hail of light arms fire, giving you enough time to get the heck out, heal up, and return fire, but you give up a lot of mobility.

In my personal opinion it's much more of a consideration vs bots since they have many more ways of dealing damage at range, but you can be just or more effective with the extra mobility provided by light armor. It really depends on how you like to play, what kind of squad you have, and your selection of strategems and weapons. I've had good success running a smoke orbital in heavy because limited mobility may not leave you an escape or advance route under fire. You can even use smoke to get close to a cannon tower with no cover around it.

Oh that sounds much more reliable than running at it and diving when it glows. I never would have trusted the smoke to actually conceal me from it before reading this, I gotta try it!
