So when they (AAA corps) create flop after flop that no one buys, with bloated budgets and abysmal reviews, yet they still stay in business... you have to wonder where the money is coming from, if not from sales.
But my guess is, that they DO like the money, and this will not affect anything. Just Sony doesn't have such a big influence on the PC gaming market as they believed that they do. Our place, our rules.
Also as time goes on many are not willing to fork over half a thousand dollars console for one game. Feels as if both Microsoft and Sony forget what makes consoles preferable to PC when you can get a PC that performs better for almost the same price then you have failed as a console.
At the end of the day a dev would be better off putting it on platforms that can play it.
For example
Hades got almost no exposure until it came over to steam from its epic exclusively deal. The exclusiveity help so little that the devs didn't even bother doing it again for Hades 2.
It doesn't take a genius to notice exclusives are a dying breed for both Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft for it's part doesn't have a single exclusive that you can't get on PC. Microsoft also expressed interest in putting it's games on both ps and Nintendo.
The money given by consoles for exclusively is clearly not enough to offset the amount of money one would make on multiple platforms.
In 20 years I've seen one game on console that was not available on PC, that I wanted.
I will never own a console.
Has what to do with what I said? Again: The removal of Toxic people hasnt been achieved by PSN or Microsoft. And they both will never able to achieve that either. No company will. Not even SK with its internet laws managed that.
Yet Square Enix has decided to ignore Sony as far as exclusives go and refuses to make them anymore.
And it isnt Sony forcing their PSN (which is in no way different than any other companie forcing their launcher upon the players) but the way they forced it AFTER the purchase (their original reason holds no value and would get ignored in every court in the EU alone) and blocking access to the game to people that had already purchased and played.
And PSN hasnt achieved anything noteworthy in terms of battling toxicity. So using that as an argument is invalid.
Sure mate. Sony the messiah will remove toxicity after forcing a launcher where every other company under the sun failed with the same practice or even harder practices but hey Sony will surely achieve this.
indeed ! Automated moderating is so efficient !
" OMG I really want to have the ability to die my armor in black !"
User banned --> we have detected the use of toxicity in your speach.
Sony has dominated the console scene for the past 20 years. Their film scene is doing great. Microsoft needs the PC market to make up for Xbox's disaster more then Sony does.
PC users like to forget they're the ones who begged Sony to put their games on pc. Sony does, Sony warns everyone they're going to require an account just like everyone else on pc does, The pc chuds cry.
Steam users will cry and rage at sony for wanting an account while at the same time shoving microsoft/ea/ubi's requirements right down their throats.
Except more and more devs are pulling out of "exclusives" and consoles aren't doing nearly as hot as they once did. For example square Enix a notoriously PS exclusive title has said console exclusives have only dropped their margins, so they will likely not partake in them anymore and aiming at releases across as many platforms as possible. Because it's just smart. Sony doesn't need Steam, but it's important they have PC releases for longevity, or they wouldn't have started to sell their exclusives to PC at all.
Sure, in the long run it might of reduced their overall potential pay, But some studios like taking the deal that means they're fore sure getting paid then risking the 3rd party potential.
Xbox is putting their games on playstation because Xbox is a failure. Sony is putting their games on PC because PC begged them and because they're looking to expand their revenue stream to counter Microsoft's new acquisitions.
Also SE isn't the best example. Their exclusive deals didn't sink the company, The company is just managed extremely poorly. XIV is pretty much the only thing keeping them off life support.
