It would be the first time I heard of a company suggesting "Just enter whatever country you feel like, as long as it is nearby it's good enough" when creating an account.
Usually companies are quite strict about demanding accurate and correct information regarding account data and are reserving the right to ban you if they notice you having entered fake data.
Don't try reasoning with this people, they just downvoted for points.
Playstation is alright by making an account to the neighboring country that supports it, it's a fact because i know hundred of people in my years of playing on playstation.
But you won't make them understand, they will ask you for "source" or "screenshots" whatever, just ignore them, let this be, its pointless.
Have you ever tried to reason with a wall? This community is that wall.
i'm honestly not trying to change minds or reason here, just facilitate something of a discussion, because right now what i'm seeing is a bunch of people from supported countries with genuine concerns about data privacy, concerns for which i both sympathise and share.
I'm someone who had a PlayStation network account before buying this game because, even as a dude with a custom built PC, I still occasionally play stuff on my Girlfriend's PS4, so the day i downloaded the game, i didn't even think twice, saw the PSN login screen, Groaned as i tried to remember my password, and entered the right variation on my first try. I own DbD, Fall Guys, And Rocket league, which require me to have an epic account. I own GTAV and RDR2 which require a rockstar account. the list goes on.
my biggest problem here is that people complaining about PSN not being available in all these countries seem to be from countries where PSN IS available, but anytime i hear from the people who DO live in those affected countries, they say "yeah, lots of accounts, companies, etc. tend to leave this country out, we have a common workaround that doesn't actually cause problems".
i'm just going based off what i've read from people in affected countries commenting when i asked a similar question on the helldivers 2 discord. that being said, i'll try contacting sony support via web chat whenever i get around to it and see what they say in regards to opening an account in, say, moldova. unsupported country, right between 2 supported countries, seems like a fair test.
This whole fiasco happened because there was conflicting information about whether or not account linking was required; the FAQ and Sony's store page said no, Steam and the pre-tutorial registration screen said yes, and AH failed to clarify in their rush to get the game playable in the first week. The irony here is everyone who chose to believe it was optional despite this conflicting information put their blind faith in Sony to do the right thing and got pissed when they predictably didn't.
So given that bit of hindsight, nobody should feel comfortable signing up for a PSN account on the hope that Sony isn't going to suddenly run a script or have an AI to sweep through all the accounts and ban everyone whose IP doesn't match the country they clicked on in the drop-down box. Nobody should spend money on live service games (not just from Sony) that requires a 3rd party account that requires them to provide incorrect information, unless they don't care about getting banned as long as they get their money's worth before being banned.
