Sony lied repeatedly, defrauded a lot of people, engages in scummy practices regularly.
Changes first, reviews later.
I think we both know it's EXTREMELY unlikely they're lying. It's not like they would gain anything from it. If they were lying people are still not making PSN accounts and would just revert their reviews back to negative.
This whole thing is a huge matter of corruption and improbability. And reversing the reviews back to negative at a later date, when there's less pressure on them for shareholders, reporting, and internal deadlines would be less effective.
Better to first claim what was already won.
Sony has lied multiple times so far, this would just be yet another time that Sony lies.
You know why they had to rwo back - money.
Valve delisted the game from those countries to try to protect consumers from being able to buy it and not play later (due to the requirement of a PSN account, and people in those countries not being able to legally make a PSN account without breaking ToS).
Presumably, Valve will relist the game in those nations since Sony is now saying that there will be no PSN account requirement, which means they will be able to play again, unhindered.
There is no reason to believe that Sony is lying in this. No, I'm not a shill, hear me out. If Sony is just lying to quell the masses for the moment, what do you think the response would be in a month when they make the PSN accounts a requirement, regardless of what they're saying right now? They would be dealing with a corporate nuclear meltdown that would rival Chernobyl in scale and breadth.
No Corp is that stupid when it comes to a massive loss of customers. Remember, Sony is a for profit corporation, it exists to make money. They cannot make money if they forcibly tarnish their own reputation on such a wide scale. They will abide by what they said in the tweet, because they must.
Also, the tweet doesn't say what they will do... only that they won't do one specific thing. Typical boiler-plate non-statement. As you said, it's a for-profit company... they're not going to put forth a guarantee that can be used against them.
People can only watch and wait. Better to remain prudent than act out of haste.
