nProtect has had breaches (CVN-2005-0295. It let ANY process tell it what to do. Very bad design for a kernel level program. There are undoubtedly more vulns.), and is a VERY powerful piece of software. Finding a new vulnerability is completely feasible, if not expected in the future. Sony has a terrible track record on security.
So. What does this change? How about we think it through a bit.
A new exploit regarding nProtect on its own wouldn't be too terrible, as you could hide in the sea of internet connected devices. Your chances of being compromised is pretty low.
So Sony only has your email address right? Wrong. How do you think they can find out if someone is using a VPN? They're also gathering telemetry data. Things to include your IP, which is used to geolocate you.
So here's the thing so many of we PC players are concerned about. Sony gets compromised again, and the telemetry data gets got. That's now a target list to leverage any nProtect vulnerability / exploit and build a bot net, as well as gather whatever is on your computer. And there's literally no way you or your system would know.
Do you want a key logger on your PC? Cause that's how you get a key logger on your PC.
A key logger can record you logging into you bank account. Is this game worth that risk? Someone being able to log into your bank from your computer?
This is a far more serious things than some are acknowledging, and I figured I'd spell it out for people.
Really though if Sony did stop porting games to PC over this it would just be a case of them taking the wrong message from the situation and shooting themselves in the foot (again) and losing possible sales from the PC audience.
Create more Game Emulators, mod the hell out of multiplayer games to play them on unofficial servers, and pirate.
OG God of War was on PC day-1 of it's release. How? Emulators and Pirates.
Every single game on every non-PC console, is already on PC, it's just not through official channels, and Publishers don't like it, but what can they do?
They've made hundreds of millions of dollars off of us PC Gamers through Steam AND Epic Games Store. As they begin to LOSE many of those millions of dollars, and get Bad Reviewed legitimately for their malpractices, and review-bombed on their singleplayer titles, they'll have to take us seriously. The PC Gaming market is HUGE, especially for anybody who is anybody with a wallet, wanting to play their games legitimately.
All the Achievement Hunters/Completionists, all the Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises, and players just wanting to enjoy a good story... we're in this together.
I'm gonna be sending refunds requests until steam accepts or blocks me from doing it, if i get blocked i will ask them to remove this trash from my account because it's rotting my library
both sony exclusives. This will stop them from even considering it.
Tell that to the thousands of Helldivers in the 177 non-PSN supported countries that were delisted last night, that paid for a game they can no longer access. Something that has been allowed to happen over the last 3 MONTHS by Sony.
And no, you cannot just "put in some rando country" or "use a VPN" as *both* are against PSN's TOS and are immediately bannable.
No wonder the world is so bleak, we can't even stand with fellow gamers. "Do you guys not have a PSN account?!" blizzard ♥♥♥♥♥♥' moment..
Like they're even considering Bloodborne anyways. People have been begging Sony for a re-release or remake of that game even on their own consoles. I'd wager I'd win the lottery before Bloodborne ever gets acknowledgement from Sony again, let alone a PC port.
