I would say probably a 6-7. I imagine Arrowhead will continue after this but they will probably curve their enthusiasm after GOTY was just taken out from underneath them.
This is only the first ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Most people don't know about the whole issue yet, because they don't read Steam Announcements.
Once this actually becomes mandatory, there will be another storm.
There's the console crowd who this whole debacle doesn't affect at all.
Then there's the large portion of people who complain, but play the game anyway.
Then there's the people who don't care.
Obviously there's going to be a hit to player population and whether it's a massive drop or not, time will tell. However at the end of the day 'everyone' is not quitting.
If you really want to play it safe, wait until after whenever this linking is enforced and see what the health of the playerbase is at.
Edit: I should clarify these are concurrent Steam players, does not reflect whatever Playstation's population is.
You don't need to worry. A handful of people will ultimately leave, another handful won't be able to play after the 30th, the rest of the players will keep playing and the game's activity will rise or fall based on actual real issues, like if they release new missions, better MOs, and more content.
Just ya know reading comprehension hard for most of society these days because we have been trained to just click through prompts. They even had one in game that people seemingly just clicked through instead of taking the time to understand that yes you will need a PSN account to play.
That said, Sony still messed up by not delisting those countries from even buying the game on Steam from day one. But it is to be expected of Sony honestly.
Whether anything is actually done about this or not is up in the air, though given the massive amount of backlash it could, maybe, lead to a class action.
Arrowhead aren't completely innocent in this, as the CEO himself has stated that he knew Sony would be demanding this about 6 months before release, yet he was perfectly okay with selling copies to people who would not be able to play the game when these changes were implemented.
As for some things that certain CMs have said, such as "Just leave a negative review", that has likely cost AH tens of thousands of dollars in revenue. If it were my company that would be a "Why is all of your stuff in and on one of my desks and why are you in my building?"
If someone costs a company something by accident (friend dropped a piece of tech worth about 10kUSD the other week, breaking it) there shouldn't be any consequences, but if someone who has a job to be the interface between the community and the developers lets emotion/ego rule them and says some really damaging things, they are unsuited to that role and are likely to cause further damage in the future.
Another CM, Twinbeard however has conducted himself excellently throughout this, at least to my knowledge. He deserves a raise.
Some people never even saw that message. Whether you saw that message seemed to be somewhat random and buggy.
While I did see it, the skip button made it seem like that was going to be there for crossplay, which makes sense, I don't need a steam account to play with steam players, but may need a PSN account to play with PSN players.
When I linked my EGS account to steam (I'm not turning down free games weekly, or daily just before Christmas, I've about 350 so far. It renumerates devs and means I don't need to sail the high seas) that was simply so I could play with steam players using an EGS game. So I had assumed the same with SNOY crossplay, which works anyway.
Best way to handle this would be "link PSN if you want to enable crossplay with PlayStation players"
If this keeps going it will be dead in the water. Happy I got a refund when I did. Just under 2hrs played
