PSN as a tool for bans, and the people issuing them.
This is less about the method and more about the people in charge of deciding what is griefing and trolling.

Community managers stated how this will be a tool to streamline ban response time.

But looking at the CM's behavior, can they actually be impartial and objective? Looking through twitter there are many displays of passive-aggressiveness, volatile emotions, and some odd priorities.

I mean, all of their Twitter accounts went on lockdown during these days, and if CMs are an example of the type of people in charge of managing game bans, then I would have to question the selection process.

What's keeping them from banning via Steam...

Just don't be a traitor then. Seems pretty straightforward.

It's not about streamlining, it's about handing support over to Sony from Arrowhead.

Naturally Sony's support techs use Sony systems based on PSN accounts

Cuz Sony, atm, cannot access Steam user IDs to ban you.

"these invasive laws are fine, I've got nothing to hide! Since you're so concerned, you must have done something wrong!"

Yeap. Yeap. You're blocked too, since you forgot your brain at the collection depot on your last maintenance rundown.

All it would take is saying "A woman has XX chromosomes" and they'll ban you from this game and PSN

And the amazing part is, they've already banned people after linking the PSN to their Steam.

It works the same way as it works on Playstation, bans are for cheating.
No cheating, no bans.

Yes they can. Arrowhead can issue game bans like every other dev who releases games on steam.

Maybe Arrowhead should hire more people if they want to manage bans. I mean, they should be making money off selling the warbonds.

Reasons why you can be banned according to PSN code of conduct.
"Do not be vulgar or offensive." No swearing or banned.
"Do not do anything to harm the PlayStation brand or PSN community." this is super vague, do negative reviews count?
"Do not do or say anything hateful. For more information, please visit playstation.com/hate-speech-policy." A sub category to that: "Glorifying or condoning violence, brutality, or death toward a person or group." If I say death to terminids or automatons does that count?"

Just some reasons you can be banned with many others being vague and very open to interpretation.

With how childish the community handlers responses are to things when they are being paid to do this. Really has me worried about how quick they can kill the game with ban hammers.

Basically Sony has their own moderation tools designed for PSN, all of their reports, ticket tracking, etc. are on that system, but there's no crosstalk with Steam's moderation tools; so whenever a Playstation user complains about a PC account, they'd have to manually switch over to the Steam moderation tools to do whatever moderation is needed, but all those actions would only be logged on Steam's records, not on PSN, so every CS rep will have to keep track of two separate systems, which splits the workflow and makes this inefficient.

Big corporations like Sony abhor such inefficiencies. They could spend the extra money to somehow link the Steam moderation tools to their PSN moderation tools, but it's likely they're too cheap and mired in the whole PC/Xbox vs. Playstation mindset to actually do that.

Now to be clear, I'm not defending Sony in this. Your question may have been rhetorical, but it does actually have an answer.

And that is the rub right there.

What is offensive? and is it defined by people who are easily offended?

Words keep losing meaning everyday, being redefined to mean whatever is convenient.

Will they later take issue voice *tones*? "Banned for sounding condescending"

Comms is iffy at times, and this may lead to less comms, with people opting to use other means of comms to avoid upsetting the system.
