At the very beginning, EA and Ubi were making games for PC. They started to export them on consoles. Ea and Ubi both have and always had a store front to sell their PC games. So yeah, is it really mandatory that we link our games to their accounts? Maybe not, but most games requires a connection to the servers, their servers. For all those reasons, I'm willing to make an account.
Sony never and will probably never sell games on PC. The Sony store is for consoles only. PC players have nothing to do here. Since quite recently, Sony was making sure their exclusivities remained on Playstation only. It's not been that long that they understood they could sell them after some time on other platforms like PC. Since PC players often don't own and don't want to own a console, it's not the same kind of competition than they have with XBox. It's a different audience that is targeted on PC. So they thought "hey we can make more money selling on PC".. that's it.. but PSN does not sell games to PC nor provides any service for PC players. A PSN account therefore doesn't make sense. They mostly do it for marketing purpose or whatever but clearly, as a PC player, I would never have made an account on PSN while on Ubi and EA, I had accounts long before they started to sell on steam and required to link.
As far as I understand, Helldivers 2 does not need the PSN account to be playable. For the last few months people could play perfectly fine without it, so that's a big difference.
It's one thing requiring a separate account if the game actually needs it to function. It's another thing if its artificially forced on you entirely because they want your data/push their user numbers.
What degenerate would think like that! Oh wait...
Don't worry, I'm sure more PSN integration will be added and will require the PSN account.
Why not read any of the literally hundreds of other threads asking the same question and getting answers instead of making another thread pretending there's no answer?
