You will need to make a free PSN account though, if you are new, or come May 30th, even if you've been playing. Making/linking your PSN account and playing Helldivers 2 with said account linked will require no more money from you. This is how it works with any game that runs through PSN when playing it on a PC instead of a Playstation.
Hope that clarifies.
after getting people "just" to sign up.. come on sign the contract.. the devil's contract
Though I woudlnt be surpised if Snoy tried to push it to PC after the dickmove they pulled.
The payment option is for Playstation Plus.
If you've heard "pay extra" it's just from the doomsayers doing a little slippery slope fallacy'ing. PSN accounts are free, the only thing you need to pay for is Playstation Plus, which only lets you play online on Playstation platforms.
You pay nothing. You just make a psn account.
All of what's happening is mostly related to Sony and people's concerns about them.
Here's a thread I made collecting as much info discussed by other threads:

If none of those points concern or effect you then go right ahead and get the game!
But you will be in Sony's territory, so you better be sure nothing happens to it, or you will be locked out of the game.
Fortunately for you, Sony are well known with their though security. They've been only breached like.. 7 or 9 times for the past decade, with the most recent one being last year September/November so it will definitely not happen again. Trust me bro.
