What's up with the hate about the PSN account?
I get people are frustrated about suddenly having to do extra work to keep playing the game. But I wonder why Sony is getting this hate exclusively? Developers like Activision/EA/Ubisoft (and others) require you to do the same thing. EA even requires you to install an additional launcher on top of just linking an account. (even bricked my Mass Effect save files when they updated Origin to EA app)

I heard some people are claiming that not all countries can make an account on PSN, but is that actually true? Does someone have info on this? If that is true, it would be a legitimate reason for the negative outburst.

I also still had a PSN account from back in my console days with the PS3 and PSP. So I might be a little biased because it only took me a few seconds to link my steam account to my PSN account.

- Sony has a track record of compromised PSN user data
- Sony displays the most egregious pay for exclusivity behaviour in the industry which keeps PC gamers from playing games
- Sony can use this requirement to force PSN subscriber growth which they can then report to shareholders which benefits their stock performance
- Sony gains subscriber info AND steam info via linking which they can monetize

Sony has shown time and again that they aren't good stewards of peoples personal information and that they lack ethics in what they're willing to do for money. As a result people are against supporting them.

I was on the fence about HD2 but thanks to Sony's arrogant move, I don't need to play it then.

The thing is, if I go and purchase EA game, I know from the get-go that I need to use their launcher and/or login system. So I'm informed before I even make my purchase.

Where as with Helldivers 2, I had been playing since official release without PSN account. But as of next month, they'll block my access to the game if I don't make third party account, for reasons.

For one, all the censorship ♥♥♥♥ Sony pulled as of late got people upset, and the PSN account thing, regardless of the whole security flaws it has, just made people more upset. They deceived people with Stellar Blade, and a couple of days ago they tried to censor stuff from Tsukihime. >_> they deserve all the hate.

Because they did it only after 3 months since release

for me it feels like sony is forcing the account requirements because of HD2 success since it was only optional at launch.

then theres also people going on about how PSN sells data and whatnot which I dont know if its true or not.

never owned a Playstation never had a PSN, dont want another account that I rarely use with my info on it. wasnt aware it would be required to play this game since there was no mention of it as far as I knew as they had removed the requirement when I bought it.

Listing a bunch of crappy practices to try to make Sony's crappy practice seem less crappy does not have the effect you're hoping it will. The problem is that Sony sold the game to people who CAN'T get PSN accounts. So, now those people will no longer be able to play the game. Sure, they'll get a refund... but for NO good reason. The game obviously does NOT require a PSN account. So, they're getting robbed of the joy of this game because Sony wants it account info (and the pay day that comes with selling it).

Personally I don't mind connecting one, but I can see the worry people have with having to connect a SONY account to our Steam when Sony has a pretty bad track record of hacks and breaches. Add that to the next question of "If SONY gets hacked, is my connected Steam account at risk too?" so the worry is there for some.
Data harvesting, PSN is banned in multiple (a surprisingly high amount) of countries, spit in the face months after launch, community manager is also not helping the situation whatsoever.

The more I learn about data harvesting/selling the more malicious I view it as. On top of that, careless corporations dont care about your data being stolen in hacks, the only care when they're caught.

I will not support companies that harvest data/sell data to the level they do. Its cancer and you can make up all the excuses you want for it, covering for it and ignoring it will only allow the problem to get worse.

69 countries have PSN available in their region while 237 countries+territories have access to Steam. Players outside of these regions will not be able to play the game anymore. And no you can't just use a VPN to make an account. Using a VPN violates PSN terms of service and can lead to account termination.
