I'm confused. Do I need to own a Playstation to keep playing?

Because many of these discussions make it sound like, if you don't have a Playstation, you're screwed. If it's only a PSN account I need, then who cares? I don't care about my information being shared to Sony. Sony are very welcome to know the size of my ♥♥♥♥ or when I last took a ♥♥♥♥. Hell, they can have pictures if they let me keep playing.

No, you just have to have a PSN account; those are free to make as there are many Sony games that are on Steam.

The process is simply creating an account on their site (I think the game links you there but it's been a while), then you enter the newly created account into the game and go from there.

No, but you need an Playstation Network Account and you are Required to use your Real name and Adress to make this Account or else they ban it for giving false informations (against the ToS).

Because people from a lot of countries cant play anymore nor can make an account.

To force people to use this or youre unable to play the game is outragous.

From what I didnt know and have read around, the ability to even MAKE a PSN account isnt available in some countries, which is why I chose to give a negative review, because if true that screws over a lot of people very unfairly"

To me at least the second part is the bigger problem, since even if I can just link my old PSN account and keep playing, apparently a lot of people can't, which is where I think the problem comes in, since until now youve been able to just skip it and play if you were in a different country, but now theres a sudden threat where simply living in the wrong place might revoke your ability to play the game.

You don't have to give PSN card info to play HD2 though.

matter of principle. if I wanted to use this game with a PSN account, then I would've bought it on their store. I also enjoy the ability to filter PS players out of my games, which I doubt will stay after the transition

I have absolutely 0 problem with that. I let a Dev sleep in my bed if that's a requirement. I let him fondle my ♥♥♥♥ too. I just wanna keep playing.

I don’t have a PlayStation or any other console but I already signed up for a PSN account somewhere along the way. They’ve made some great PC ports in the last few years.

I linked a PSN account for Helldivers 2 when I got the game as well as with Horizon Forbidden West (or were they linked automatically). It hasn’t bothered me so far. What’s the big deal?

Also Sony is continuing to port games that I’ll want. I imagine the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima will be linked too.

Is this really a hill to die on? It’s a pretty big sacrifice.

Anyhow, you also might be interested that in the last 10 years PSN got hacked and its user list (with all the info) leaked about 10 times, once it was as easy as copying a .txt file ....

Which is why I consider the second part more important personally, but I think part 1 was is still worth mentioning. To clarify, I was answering the "Why are people so pissed" part, which seems split between cyber security concerns, part 1, and my own concern, players from different country's ability to play.

And the countries that don't have access to Sony's PSN? What about them?
Will they need a VPN account to make one? Will they be banned for that?
If this was always arrowhead/sony's plan why sell to those countries?
I guess if it doesn't affect you who cares right?

it literally requires your address and real name, and you can get banned if they find out you used a fake one. not to mention the fact that sony gets hacked on a yearly basis
