There is precedent at this very moment that this nonsense is not necessary and obviously with zero benefit for the customer.
most of the players on ASIA like central asia, SEA and CN, some EU countries, africa countries cant access PSN or register to PSN
Sony is now going the route of Epic, EA, Rockstar and Ubisoft.
Typically, when 3rd party accounts are mentioned on the store page as required, the people that would complain, don't ever buy the game to begin with. I am one of those people. I don't need 1000 launchers, if a game requires 3rd party, I don't buy it and Ignore it on the store page so I don't have to see it. You don't see complaints about Battlefield, GTA, RDR, Overwatch, etc, because the people that would complain never got into them to begin with.
The problem here is the bait and switch. People bought in under the assumption they wouldn't be required to link to a 3rd party account but now, AFTER the sale, the seller wants to change the terms, or in this case product. This is not okay.
Imagine if you bought a house, fully paid for it and all, and then one year later the builders of the house came back and said "we need to demolish your kitchen, we didn't actually want to sell this house with a kitchen included" ... that's crazy, people can't do that, this is the same thing on a smaller scale.
I think the problem some people have with this is we weren't aware we'd have to eventually link a PSN account when we initially bought it. I've refunded games from both Ubisoft and Activision in the past for forcing me to use their service. Now I can't because I've owned the game for too long.
It's not really about this being a huge inconvenience for me. It's more about keeping people in the dark that this was coming. I don't know if there was some twitter post or some random forum post I missed but I was not aware of this upon purchasing the game.
