Game needs a NEW Map Type
From an amateur game dev perspective I had an appreciation for the "rehashing" with biomes/elements/plantlife to distinguish each other for the "different" planets. It's legitimately something I always wanted in other games I played that had the same maps over and over because rehashing with a different biome/season/TimeOfDay kind of alleviates repetitiveness and makes you feel like you're in a different place...

...but unfortunately after awhile that illusion pretty much wears off...and it truly feels like you're on the same planet but it's just at a different time/season. I think this is due to all the current maps being vast open and circular on every single planet and mission type. Like a large pan that has the same 3 or 4 recipes sprinkled onto it. Sure you'd appreciate the variation a bit, but eventually you'll get tired of "circular" food.

But that's kind of the premise for Helldivers...the Mission Command Table is a circular globe and you get launched onto the planet in a drop pod and use support fire with strategems from a hovering destroyer....which makes me wonder if the devs kinda "wrote themselves into a corner".

Would it be weird if there was a mission type where you got launched into the side of an Automoton spaceship and fought your way through large hallways and rooms full of bots? Does that seem "Helldiver" esque or totally unfeasible? What about a planet where you fought your way down inside the planet through a vast network of bug nests to kill the Queen underground? Some more maps/mission types that have a different kind of dimension instead of a flat circle with occasional mountains....

Food for thought...

No. How about they fix the bajillion bugs, crashes, performance issues, and mechanics not working before they introduce more maps that will also inevitably introduce more bugs and issues into the game?

Then consider it "anticipation for changes in the future". Fixing bugs goes without saying.

I would like to see some more variety in the tiles, such as indoor areas (can't use airstrikes in these!) and tiles with more complexity or even underground areas. That would also require very different weapons and I guess reinforcing would also work very different as well.

I would really like to see some caves or even bug tunnels.

I think it's likely we'll get some more variation in the map types in the future.

In their recent player poll, different objectives, modifiers, biomes and planets was the most requested feature.

Maybe eventually we'll get some more dynamic mission types as a part of the story or something.

I doubt it will be as transformative as a mission where you are invading an automaton ship like you describe though, but cool idea.

Yes. We should have more interesting maps

What if we had an island map with boats to traverse the water? And then we can have bot gunboats and swimming bugs

Yeah, I want more interesting terrain. The rocky planets that sometimes have fog and tress is getting really old. I want urban maps, tropical maps (like vacation tropical with colors), moon maps (pretty sure there was 1, but I want more) more ice maps. Its the galaxy for gods sake, its alien planets! give us some super weird looking geography

The game's general suite of mechanics require large open spaces to work. We're wielding airstrikes, cannon bombardment, mechs and other large-scale conflagration. So missions in tight quarters and especially indoors are pretty much a no-go.

However, that doesn't mean we can't have variety. Missions on top a space ship are unlikely, but missions in an urban environment could work. The original Helldivers had that. Would just need to ensure the streets are wide enough and there are ways to access rooftops. Maybe we can get ladders added to the game, too.

I'm sure we'll see other planet tilesets as time goes on.

I think a suburban environment could work. Imagine being ambushed by a tank squashing a single family home out of nowhere

i want a map with a ceiling of some kind. inside a huge spaceship like ones from prometheus or inside a huge alien cave like the ones from fireteam elite. or even building structures like ones from space marine 2

There are by my count 19 different biomes and dozens of different maps depending on the mission you are on. And every single map is different (except for defend campaigns and the small map campaigns where the maps are mostly the same from mission to mission). That is an awful lot of variation! And they are adding new maps fairly regularly... we just got the city, which is radically different than where we have been fighting to date. So, be happy that there is this much variation available. Make recommendations and such, sure, but at least realize how much variation is already in-game.

i thought the urban enviro looked terrible. theres so much detail in this game. the urban environment modelling just didnt have the same level of detail, especially the random vehicles.
