Basically, yes, these kind of missions, without story. But compared to Deep Rock Galactic this one is even more combat focused with far less exploration elements, so it still has a much different feel to it, I would say, even though the gameplay concept is similar.
Its an extraction shooter through and through. The best you'll ever play. You'll watch one really kick ass, really funny video at the start, then you're on a ship that you can upgrade for in-mission perks, and fly to different areas.
You have a map you can choose from different planets and areas which have different environments. Like an ice world will cool down your weapons faster but also be a drag on stamina. Most missions are 40 min. You 'dive' and can either play with 3 other players or solo.
You'll have goals to complete the mission and you'll also be able to collect 'samples' 'credits' 'xp' during the mission if time allows. Then at the end, you call for extraction, which takes 2 minutes, where you have to survive until the ship arrives and you get in. There's tons of cool weapons to unlock, ways to bombard enemies from above with 'strategens' and you'll unlock new armor, helmets, etc. as you progress. Its not pay-to-win. But you can buy credits to unlock different armor that doesn't make you unstoppable simply changes your play-style.
You can play solo but this game is pretty brutal and unforgiving. The mechanics are realistic where if you reload without using all of a mag you'll waste bullets, that sort of stuff. The main enemies are 'bugs' and 'automatons' depending on which planets or invasion you focus on. The 'story' is invasion. And you are simply a tool to save the human race. Simple.
If you've played Warframe, I think this looks and feels like higher level missions except just with guns. But that comparison doesn't do this game justice.
