I too suspect the devs are intentionally manipulating the game to force us to lose for plot reasons by making the defense missions impossible to beat, even hackers can't beat it with godmode since all the civilians die anyway to the 400 tanks and hulks.
The only missions I really hate are escort, as for the shield is working somewhat like the first game, is not supposed to make you invulnerable.
This is a hardcore game, and if you feel it's too hard you can either play on lower difficulty, get someone to help you, or play something else. I suggested playing something else, because you seem to want the game to suit you, while ignoring what the game is really about.
Personally i like the bots more than bugs for a few reasons:
Hulks die easier than chargers (F bruisers though)
Tanks are much slower than bile titans.
They don't fog up the map and make it hard to see.
Plasma Scorcher can 2-3tap the walkers.
Ubanea is very easy to navigate and find super samples (Bugs now have Crimsica if i'm not mistaken)
I do think the Devastator head hitbox can be a bit finicky but it's not a deal breaker for me.
Avoid fights, keep moving, drop 500kgs or railguns to destroy objectives and so on.
Don't bring that BREAKER with you, take a slugger instead so you can actually do something.
You don't want to keep fighting with automatons, the tactic is hit and run unlike bugs.
