It might mark the world instead, it can be finicky. But it's a nice feature because it'll also identify what type of enemy it is.

Every time... Problem is that you have no "reliable" reticle in third person with which to aim with. There is the barrel pointed marker, but it's never actually at the center of where your aiming. Only firstperson ADS lets you accurately mark things.
If I were even more jaded than I already was, I would assume the cartoonish amount of both basic and vital gameplay elements are reliant on "hope somebody else told you in an internet post" was done on purpose to make faux hardcore gamers feel special when complaining "What do you MEAN you didn't know you can change the rate of fire on your gun!?"
