We did dive close to the gloom several times, imagine if it stick to our ship and it play out like the Flood or Alien lol.
But all actual evidence suggests very strongly that terminids, even the heavily mutated ones, are unable to move from planet to planet without being transported by someone else. Even the Meridia disaster was obviously not launched because the terminids were about to spread, but because they were uncontrollable and unfarmable on the surface of the planet. As in the resources we need could not be harvested, and the population on that planet could not be controlled. So Super Earth ordered it to be turned into a black hole.
