The MM in "380mm Barrage"
Stands for the macrometer at which it will inevitably kill a teammate while not even going near the beacon.

you have to improve your aiming software in your space ship..

To be fair, accuracy was never the points of 120mm/380mm...but the fact that they fire just 9 shells with garbage aoe mean it probably won't hit anything meaningful unless you are lucky.

I just threw a beacon into a bot base roughly 150m away and the first shot hit me. Just saying.

I have not even bothered unlocking them yet, just watching the included video of them in action the 120mm or w/e made me go "eh thats a bit inaccurate but maaaaybe against a bug breach?"

but the moment I saw the 380mm my reaction was ".....that spread is larger than some outposts placed side by side, I could throw this in a automaton outpost and maybe not even a single shot will land IN it while nuking my entire team standing half a km away????"

Not sure if I have ever even seen anyone use it in game yet, thats how awkward it is.
With that kind of spread it would probably need 3-4+x as many shots in as many simultaneous barrages(so around 4-5 shells are landing at a time in different spots) for it to get work done on anything.

Its one of those things I ignored with the hope that it will get fixed later on along with most of the primary weapons once the game itself is working at a acceptable level and the devs gets time to do other things can emergency damage control/patching.

they're not meant to be precision strikes, i use them to enter into on outpost or when i'm fleeing from a horde, the 120mm is a much more reliable choice but the size of 380mm strikes can have a big impact.
only problem is that even with the 120mm, the furthest you can throw it you still have to take a few steps back, teammates unfortunately rarely realize this or even see the bright red beacon protruding from the ground

I like bringing them. Mostly because I don't tell my friends I threw them, but also because I unlocked the dark-souls-esque "hug" emote and am posing with it on a high rock, looking into the sky as they rain down.

They've also done enough work to not make me want to swap them out yet, even if it's luck/rng. The couple times I've used them on outposts, by the time it's over, it's not there anymore. Could I have already cleared it by the time 9 seconds is up? Yeah. Do I want to? Nah.

its safer to throw at your feet and just wait for everything around you to explode, knowing no shot will land on the beacon.

Even if you throw them in a massive horde, chances are they'll maybe strike the edges of the swarm and not the middle.

Thats also something I have been wondering, maybe they have changed since they made the video and its not as bad as it looks. Would you say the unlock video is a good representation for how they work?

It's more entertaining to stick it to a charger as it chases your friends.

I can't remember the unlock video, but I'll have to check next time. I'll definitely say all of the unlock videos seem rather... underwhelming, but that's not to say they're not underwhelming in game. The scale is definitely... grander, to say the least, for the 380mm.

Anyway, anecdotally, any time I threw them into the center of an outpost it mostly leveled all of the buildings and enemies.

It's definitely skippable, but realistically, everyone's going to unlock everything anyway so either push the unlock off, or get it (enjoy it or forget it).

I'm sure the fact that you can't physically throw beacons further than about 50m also fly right above your head...

I was guesstimating the distance. Point is: I threw it as far as I could, Servo Arm included.

Suppose there's a reason it specifically tells you to warn your teammates when throwing it. Ain't no one knowing where those shots are going. Not even the guy up in the Destroyer firing them.
