cannon turret how to destroy (SOLVED!)
lol what is this you cannot destroy it with normal nades or machine gun even when you shoot it in the back?
orbital and eagle strikes also do not work seems a little bit stupid.

railcannon
orbital laser
500kg, 1 if drop on top, 2 if drop near
railgun 5 safe shots to the back

Autocannon to the glowing port on the back. 3 or 4 good shots and its gone.

Also Eagle Airstrike takes it out real easy, as well as tanks, hulks, and really anything not a bile titan.

So here's the deal on the Cannon Turrets at Automaton bases. They have fortified armor on all but the backside, and the tower they're situated on deflects call in beacons instead of letting them stick. (But the turret itself doesn't.)

This rear side with the grill is vulnerable to medium armor penetration weaponry, meaning the starter MG-42 can do the job, but dedicated anti-tank works better. From experience, the front facing (with the cannon on it) has armor so thick I don't know if anti-tank (EAT or Recoiless Rifle) can punch through it. I do know that the Railgun can punch through the side armor, but it takes several hits.

For call in's to deal with it, the 110mm rocket pod often targets the turret and takes it out, as it's classed as a building or heavy unit and it's targeting prioritizes those. The Orbital Railcannon works as well. Other than those, you need direct hits on the turret. Eagle Airstrike for example, doesn't have the blast radius to take down a turret unless a bomb directly hits the turret. 500KG is similarly unreliable.

The turrets have an effective engagement range longer than 150 meters(!) so beware once it wakes up. Eventually if there's no activity it will go back to idle, and it can only track (slowly) one person at a time, but that cannon is a deadly direct fire weapon that can kill you when wearing explosive resistance armor and a full shield pack.:raven:

yeah i treid with the MG call in in the back did nothing even after 2 full mags

One Spear will do the trick too, but the janky lock-on system leaves something to be desired.

The funny cannon which you can carry around is good. 3 shots in the back and it's joever for that turret.

You need to hit the grill itself, which is harder than you might think because of the edge of the tower it's sitting on and the recoil/spread of the gun.

That being said, I've killed them with Liberator Penetratior (took about 4 mags) so I know it should work with the MG-42.:raven:

Anything that can break medium armor.

Hit the orange bit on the back or just keep dropping exploding ordinance on top of it.

If you see blue sparks it isn't penetrating.

Wait, is it the starter MG or the Stalwart you have to unlock? The one with the 250 round magazine (Stalwart) has lower armor penetration, and might not punch through the grill. Edit: also you can reload the Stalwart while moving instead of having to stop to reload.:raven:

i think the starter MG is called MG-43
but iam heavily unsure if the turret actulay should explode or just raise its barrel to indicate its defeated

at least i had zero feedback that i did damage to it when hitting the vents close range from behind.

It usually explodes and the barrel is blasted off, but I can't say for sure. if your not even getting deflect animations I'm going to chalk this one up to a bug.:raven:

Redundant orbital bombardments can do the trick too. A little coordination with the team can really help. I had some luck (not good luck, just... luck) with a SEAF that turned out I'd loaded a smoke round in... somehow. Meant I was trying to deal with it while too close for it to hit me. Unfortunately, the same base also had an annihilator tank, and I'm pretty sure I had the mission difficulty down around 2 or 3.

After that, the rest of the mission was a cakewalk.

mmm. Cake.
