Very important about CPU temps
Bug: The in-Game FPS limiter causes significant increase in CPU load and temp (~20C on my CPU).

Note the CPU temp, wattage and usage on the top right in blue.

Adding a video, because people are arguing that "this is normal" or "this is a hardware issue", which completely sidetracks the discussion and misinforms players who might be having the same issue.

It is, when you realize it's caused by the FPS limiter and upon disabling it, temp goes to 60C.
Fair, but it's not exactly "Why am I smelling burning plastic?" levels of heat.

I have a strong aftermarket cooler and I get 80. Someone else with dif CPU with dif cooler could reach much higher, throttle or BSOD their PC. Who knows. Why push it?

You have options.

  • You may need a better CPU cooler, you failed to mention which cooler you are using. I have a Noctua DH-15.

  • Next, adjust your fan intakes and exhaust. If temps aren't remedied after that, then your tower is inefficient, and you need a tower that is better designed for performing the task that all towers should be doing in the first place.

Did you even read the post? Disabling the FPS limiter reduces temps instantly to 60-65C

Did you read my mine?

I have the limiter turned on and I still see 65C.

And since you don't see lower temps with the limiter on that means your cooling is inadequate. You know this, otherwise we would not be having this discussion.

I limited my FPS to 60 and despite that, I noticed that my CPU is trying to melt it self.
1 hour it stayed at 80C full load. I have an aftermarket cooler and Cinebench stresstests run at about that temp.

The moment I disabled the FPS limiter and went to my Vsync limit of 75fps (my monitor refresh rate), the temps went down by about 15-20C and the fans slow down.
Even without Vsync (running the game at ~100fps, the CPU is at ~65C). Something is bugged in the FPS limiter. Don't melt your CPU.

My advice: You might not even know that your CPU is running at these temperatures. Run a benchmark software while playing and make sure you are not experiencing this.

Before someone states that AMD rates these chips to 92C...please, don't
That's the peak temp it can survive. Don't expect to run your CPU like that for hundreds of hours without it dying or needing thermal paste every week.

Got a 5950x OCed @ 4.7 all core stable @ 1.24v and running @ 4k native, Ultra, & Vsync ON temp didn't go above ~50-55c, got Aquasuite with auto shutoff.
Must be something in your system or maybe hardware or thermal paste issue, contact??
or
Like you said must be the fps limiter, I never turn those on when I play...
The point of FPS limiter is to reduce the workload and strain on CPU, but it does the opposite, that is the problem. If this is indeed a bug which i'd believe, it should be addressed as future updates could make the temp difference more extreme if the devs are not aware off the issue, not to mention people with lower specs won't have that option to run the game smoother. simple as that.

So what we can do for now if you have temperature problems is limit the game frames to lower system usage, as has already been noted using the game limiter makes the situation worse, to overcome this use an external frame limiter at a frame-rate you find acceptable and test the situation. I have already personally tried and the CPU usage drops proportionally to the frame limits.

If despite this the problem is not resolved, all that remains is to wait for further optimizations from the developers.

I always see variances of these posts with new games. The only games I've ever had inflated temps on are some Unity engine games.

Make me wonder how much of it is a problem with the actual games, vs their cooling system being at fault.

I have a i9 9900k and I get in the same temperature range that I do most games. I have the frame limit set to 144. Not sure how close I get to that in game though.

Yep, same here... on i7 13700 temp is 81-82, before was 70, 75 max. Will try to disable frame limit.
Cyberpunk on ultra with rt didn't reach that high.

2 FFXIV and a Deep Rock Galactic doesnt even reach as high as the queue screen does.
Hope they can get something in place that can lower the pressure on CPU's. Something is putting excess strain on them.

I noticed my temps significantly higher (about 15-20c for cpu) using the in game fps limiter as opposed to radeon chill, so yes there is likely something wrong with the fps limiter in game.

There is a reddit post regarding amd 5800x3D (what I have) and SMT.

https://old.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1ana9wc/amd_7000_series_crash_solution/#:~:text=The%20key%20is%20to%20keep,clock%20speeds%20to%202300mhz%20etc

Using Process Lasso to disable SMT with Helldiver 2 significantly reduced cpu usage and temp on mine. After one and a half hour session my temp spike is at 83c and average at 61c.

i have i5-13400 and i tested with frame limiter. My cpu usage stood the same for the game at 5% and temp is 50C Maybe check the recommended CPU needed before complaining that your cpu isnt better than the min.
wait its actually true went from 82C to 70C... this is clearly a bug like the bad performance introduced in the last update, i hope it gets fixed.

my 14900k never get higher than 50 celcius in game

People want to check their hardware and fans before blaming games for heating up their system, just to be sure.
I say this because i had a faulty CPU water cooler and blamed this game when it wasnt the game causing my CPU to heat up bigtime.

What is your CPU cooler OP ?
I had one of these
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/arctic-service-kit-freezer-2-aio and the link says about the issue with a batch.
I decided not to use the repair kit they offer and got a Bequiet Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler instead.
If anyone has an Arctic Liquid Freezer II water cooler (bought 2021/22) and has a CPU starting to almost fry they need to read that link.

I have a 5800x3D a known hot as ♥♥♥♥ CPU and i've never seen it go above 61 in this game.
