Not true at all actually. You can get Frame Generation in any game now with an app. Check it out:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/993090/Lossless_Scaling/
It works absolute wonders for 2D games though, definitely worth checking out!
Well yeah, it isn't going to be true frames. It's interpolating the frames to create fluid motion, which is where the extra latency comes from. If you run the game at a true 60FPS, frame gen can double that and get you 120FPS, but you're going to have the latency of 60FPS. Those doubled frames create fluidity, and they're not attached to your input.
It's actually not that bad. I've tried it in multiple games and it's easy to get used to. I find the extra frames and being able to track things better far outweighs the latency hit.
Yeah I don't even use the scalers in it. They have a bunch, FSR, etc. I literally only use frame gen in it and it works as advertised. It all depends on what you're looking for though, and what you're willing to sacrifice in game. It's worth it for me, but might not be for others.
DLSS and FG are literally just ways around awful coding and optimisations 🤣
Hundred times better than FSR.
Just tested the frame-gen. TBH I can't spot a different, but only tested on my ship where I'm at ~100FPS anyway. I gave G-Sync enabled, which makes anything above ~70fps feel super fluid anyway, maybe that plays a part here. The input latency isn't as bad as I thought it would be, I think it would still get on my nerves, but I'd deffo re-consider this if I didn';t have g-sync and/or was at low FPS to begin with.
Gonna see hwo it goes in a mission, after yesterdays update I sometimes drop to 40s.
