Low FPS Issue - Need Help
Hi!
First, my problem then my specs.

Problem:
The usual low FPS issue. 30-40 FPS no matter the settings. Drivers are updated and everythibg else on my pc is shut down - set the priority for Helldivers to be high on task manager and still no change.

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF slightly overclocked.
AMD RX480 8gb
Asrock B450 Steel Legend
16GB 3600 Speed XMP enabled RAM

Previous experience:
I’ve run games like Star Wats Battlefront 2 on max settings with 0 issues, Apex, RDR 2, and almost every other major game you can think of. Even if a game has had low fps on my pc, lowering the graphics has always helped, unlike with Helldivers.

Very strange issue, plus the additional anti-cheat that has been set to low priority in my task manager.

No recourses are used at 100%, making it even stranger.

Settings guys... it matters.
and Under display not graphics, Render quality affects performance massively

I can totally understand the frustration you're going through with the degraded framerate performance of Helldivers 2... I have been having issues with the FPS since launch.

Here's what I found to be the most helpful:

1. Close Background Processes
2. Play Helldivers 2 in Full-Screen
3. Update the Video Card Drivers
4. Lower the Helldivers 2 Graphics
5. Prevent your PC from Throttling
6. Lower the Helldivers 2 Resolution
7. Cap the Helldivers 2 Frames to 60

I took most of the solutions from this guide:

https://gamescopes.com/helldivers-2-low-fps-on-pc-fix-for-lagging-stuttering/

Hope this helps!

any solution?
same problem with ryzen 3550h + gf1650. cpu is 100%, gpu is 30%, temps are ok but 25-40 fps.
tried dx11, undervolting, different poewer plans, boost on/off, different settings, still about 28-32 fps in squad game...
the humor is that switching to built-in GPU (AMD Vega) ingame gives me nearly same fps!

its because your CPU is lacking, no matter what settings you set most of them need a fast cpu. (its more complicated and i'm far to stupid to explain it)

I utilize 3070ti and get decent performance but if I switch planets it will tank down to 20's. Some times it will tank when I try to upgrade ship. Not sure if it's if I do upgrade or just accessing the menu. Only way to fix, is for me to restart the game.

With that said try restarting the game see how it runs. The random fps drops may makes you feel like it's all the time.

as i state before, this game is more cpu heavy then gpu, just upgrading your gpu in this care would garantie better performances, this is actually for most UE5 games, they seem to be more cpu heavy then gpu for some reason.

also a giant pro tip, your pc is as fast as the slowest item in it.
example: i mean if your cpu is lacking power already upgrading your gpu is going to do nothing and in some cases being worse.

That pc spec is almost 8 years old, maybe time for upgrade?

Even I have some FPS issues and my PC is definetly not as old as OP, even though I still have 16 it's more then enough for now. Sure more is always welcome, but if recommended system requirements say that 16 is enough it's enough. My system as of now (Going to upgrade in May) is:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
16 GB DDR4-3200
Gigabyte AORUS Radeon™ RX 6750 XT ELITE 12GB

The FPS decrease could indeed have to do with the higher difficulty as more stuff is happening in the background. But for the FPS drop from 60+ to 30 from Difficulty 4 to 5 (I just got the game) the engine could still use some little bugfixing and some optimizing

It could be a lot of things if I'm being honest, but for starters, I would say the engine that the game is built on has issues with certain specs. It probably has issues with older specs. I refunded the game due to the game running like absolute ♥♥♥♥ on the lowest settings possible while also downscaling to 1080p.
My specs are i7-7700k, gtx 1070, 16gbs of ram, and I put it on my nvme m.2 ssd. The reason I think it just doesn't like older specs is due the fact that one of my friends who has worse specs than me and is running on a laptop gets better framerate than me, actually his is pretty crystal clear whilst also streaming it, so, I think it has something to do with old hardware vs new.

3060 12gb, r5 5600x with 36gb ram. somehow this game runs worse when i lower the graphics settings, i gett maybe 25 fps on low and 35 ish on ultra. how this is considered acceptable i don't know, Helldivers 2 is the only game i have performance issues with

OP your specs are pretty dated, and your comparing games from years ago to one released in 2024? Well here's honestly the best legit advice.

Since you have an AM4 motherboard, you can update your BIOS and install a budget CPU like the Ryzen 5600 that's WAY faster than your old 1600.

You'll need a GPU upgrade too. You can go for something cheap like an Rx 6600 and it'll run fine at medium settings, but if you want something that'll last longer I would recommend the 6700XT.

That's the best advice for you possible. The game isn't unoptimized, it's just your current PC is nearly 8 years old. You obviously need to upgrade at some point, developers aren't going to optimize their games for such low end hardware.

At the time of the post, The Finals had just came out... IDK what all of you are talking about. Of course I can't list every single new title I have played. Elden Ring is also something that runs without a problem, not perfect, but it runs pretty well, so helldivers doesn't rly make a lot of sense to me. And have you seen the rumors of it running some stuff behind the scenes?

Your PC is too old, we've already come to that conclusion. Your CPU is a 1st gen Ryzen with is comparable to a 4th gen i7 from 10 years ago, and your RX 480 is a budget GPU from 2016, and has since stop receiving driver updates.

Developer aren't going to keep optimizing games for new hardware. Your only choice is to upgrade. Pick up a Ryzen 5600 and RX 6600, and you'll be able to run this game at high settings 1080p with 60+fps. You're on a highly upgradable platform, why not take advantage of that?

Ok smart guy, explain why people with x10 better set-ups than mine get the same issues, fps, and performance bottlenecks? My cpu is like 4 years old which is not a lot at all, GPU can be better but it still has a lot of VRAM which helps a lot to compensate.

Don´t worry mate, this game runs like ♥♥♥♥ since the beginning. I have a RTX 3090 with 32GB DDR4 and a 12700K. Nothing throttles because it´s cooled by 2x 360 rads and a custom loop. The devs just don´t care ...

What? Your CPU is from 2019, and is a rerelease of the 1600 from 2017, but now just on 12nm: https://www.techpowerup.com/cpu-specs/ryzen-5-1600.c1900

Your GPU is even older, as it released in 2016: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-480.c2848

It's also a LOT slower than an entry level GPU like an RX 6600. It doesn't matter if it has 8gbs of VRAM. The GPU itself is a lot slower: https://youtu.be/Fxa_LMN4PlA

Not gonna keep arguing with someone who has no idea what they are talking about. Seems like you have no idea how hardware works, and expect everything to be optimized for your ancient hardware.

You're literally on a highly upgradable platform like I said. A Ryzen 5600 will provide a 75% boost in performance across all games: https://youtu.be/hTwnybMF8hs

That's a HUGE difference, and then you can throw in an RX 6600, and run Helldivers 2 at 1080p high settings and get 60+ fps.

But you'd rather sit here and complain instead of actually fixing the issue, which is your hardware, and this really shows you have zero clue what you're talking about.
