Low FPS Issue - Need Help
Hi!
First, my problem then my specs.

Problem:
The usual low FPS issue. 30-40 FPS no matter the settings. Drivers are updated and everythibg else on my pc is shut down - set the priority for Helldivers to be high on task manager and still no change.

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF slightly overclocked.
AMD RX480 8gb
Asrock B450 Steel Legend
16GB 3600 Speed XMP enabled RAM

Previous experience:
I’ve run games like Star Wats Battlefront 2 on max settings with 0 issues, Apex, RDR 2, and almost every other major game you can think of. Even if a game has had low fps on my pc, lowering the graphics has always helped, unlike with Helldivers.

Very strange issue, plus the additional anti-cheat that has been set to low priority in my task manager.

No recourses are used at 100%, making it even stranger.

not at all, 16gb is not enough for 2024 games, just cause when i play this, it takes like 18 from ram
You might be right, bu why do thei recommend a minimum of 8 and a recomended 16? Doesn’t make any sence to me. I mean another 16gb is like 50€. Never happened to be before, ever
man, u just need to new pc, ur pc is ♥♥♥♥, all games like read dead, forza and the others is old games, ofc they are run smoothly, but starting from RLY new games, hd2, dragons dogma 2, dlc for elden ring etc it will not run on ur pc

But the recommendation from the devs on the steam page is 16gb ddr4… doesnt that mena that it should be good???
not at all, 16gb is not enough for 2024 games, just cause when i play this, it takes like 18 from ram

The more RAM you have the more it's going to get used. You're an idiot. 16 is fine for this game and fine for pretty much all. Having 32 gigs nowadays is just going to let you run and do other things WHILE you have a game open. 16 is plenty to just run a game on.

OP, there are issues with the optimization, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Mid range rigs struggle with the game, it's known. Their recommended specs mention an RTX 2060 for a card, but benchmark tests on sites report it doesn't even net you 60 FPS minimum like they claim.

Sad reality is, other than waiting for optimization there's not a whole lot you can do. Messing with settings won't change much, but there's a few you can try. You can try toggling off async compute in the user_settings.config file. It's a 50/50, but depending on the system it can either worsen or better your performance.

Beyond that, you can look into forcing frame generation in the game. You'll need an app to do it, and you can find it on Steam; Lossless Scaling. You don't need an RTX 4xxx series card to use frame gen anymore. It will literally double your frames at the cost of some latency. I've had it running on my brother's older rig and it's amazing.

I'd also look into what GameGuard's doing, my laptop (14900HX, 4090, 64GB RAM) can have some really harsh frame drops when the game gets really hectic, but at the same time GameGuard is going scitzo in the background eating 20% of my CPU, but the optimisation still isn't amazing, for a PC port I'd rate it as acceptable? It's not horrendous but it's not as excellent as some people will claim.

I'd also recommend looking into Lossless Scaling, used it on my old laptop before the Frame Generation update, and if they had released that and my old one didn't die (RIP fan bearings) I might have held off on the upgrade.

Also if you can cheaply upgrade to 32GB of RAM, I would recommend it for some games, also depends on software bloat or just multitasking in general (When I have Helldivers open, I have around 22/64GB in use) to if 16GB is enough, in the perfect world it is so you can also go about trying to reduce unnecessary RAM use.

Can you read? Those were examples of games. No game has had issues on my pc no matter the release date. The peoblem isnt in my pc, its in the optimisation of the game. Have you heard of FSR and similar technologies? Well FYI they are used in almost all games so 90% of ppl can run the game. And stop flexing ur rig

Damn man, thanks a lot! Literally started looking into FSR and similar tech an hour ago. I will try the things you recommend and give feedback. Hopefully we help someone.

Sad part is that optimisation is rly bad as you said. Hope they figure it out

Thanks brother

The game is CPU heavy and the 1600AF (aka cut down 2600) is slower than christmas. What do you expect? I bet all 6 cores are pegged.

Will definitely look into lossless scaling, thanks a lot.

Why didn’t I think that the reason behind the issues might be that its a PS port as you said… pretty interesting.

I mean another two sticks of 8gb ram is dirt cheap here so, why not. End scenario is that it doesnt help and i get a 16gb ram bonus lol.

Thank you again!!!

Absolutely false. The ram and gpu are struggling the most cuz of the bad optimisation of the game itself.

No, they're not. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Plus the fact that the cpu and gpu in the PS5 arent that much better than my rig. Which means that the most important thing in the whole equation is what? Optimisation and resource management - if you dont agree why would PS release a game that wont run good on their own platform?

The PS5 has a GPU equivalent to an RX6700 which is literally three times faster than what you have. The CPU is also faster and has more cores than your machine. Add to that unified resources and you have something much stronger than what you have. I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings, hell I have two spare RX 480s here I'll send you one for free to run crossfire if you want, thats how worthless they are in 2024.

minimum means minimum to play, not minimum to get decent fps.
