2-3 Player Team Good Nuff?
Serious question cos prob grab this down the line:
My core gaming group is 2-3 people, sometimes a fourth.

For people who have played game enough, would you say you can comfortably enjoy the challenge with 2-3 people, or kind of game where going to want a steady gang of four to play the max difficulty content?

I've been playing the game mostly with my friend, so 2-player team.

So far we've settled on 3rd highest difficulty, and we are succeeding in our missions. So it's doable. No idea about the hardest difficulty tho.

for max difficulty id definitely recommend four, the extra stratagems do help out a good bit. but enemy density DOES scale with playercount so you should easily be able to do most things with just three

You can call in an SOS beacon which fills your group with random people. It mostly works at the moment, but thats because matchmaking is crazy with so many people trying to play on the servers.

Solo missions are very hard, 2 man makes it much easier, but 4 mans are the most fun. Not the most easy, the most fun. Because its very easy to get killed by your fellow Helldivers by accidentally airstrikes and grenades etc.

Define your definition of fun.

If you want to fight endless hordes of enemies and find that fun. Then great.

If you want to fight the higher difficulties then you need to be sneaky like the SAS, Navy Seals etc.

You can also go solo or split up and cover multiple objectives at once.

You need to remember, you are a infiltrating strike force who is meant to go in and do an objective then bugger out. You're not a massive invading army and should not be expected to find an endless horde of enemies and complete your objectives at the same time and win.

I enjoy both solo and team play, but with the servers being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I've had to rely more on solo. Which is fine for now.

But most players find solo hard as hell, because quite honestly they don't use their brains at all. They just rush rush rush into enemies all day long.

Soloing any difficult can be easy as hell. Even the hardestt level.

A ton of players have already tried it and uploaded their attempts to YT.

But here's the problem, they still try to fight too many enemies.

I don't and I complete all primary and secondary objectives and destroy all enemy outposts.

Here's my YT channel where I solo helldiver's difficulty with ease. I don't even do anything difficult. I have a clip of me playing with a random too.

I'll be uploading more videos where I've done all the above without dying once with the most optimal loadouts.

Once you join the game, the below builds will be more relevant to you. So you might want to save it somewhere.

I've done a ♥♥♥♥ ton of testing and here's the optimal build I've found to solo the hardest difficulty and complete all objectives without dying once.

Against bots

Eagle Airstrike - Anti-soft & hard targets - 3 shots before rearm - Every 8 seconds - 180 second cooldown
Eagle 500kg - Kill hard targets - 2 shots before rearm - 180 second cooldown
Autocannon - Anti-buildings and most tough enemies if need be.
Orbital Laser - Protect your ass and anti-buildings if you get a 4th stratagem slot.

Armour: SC-30 Trailblazer Scout

Booster: Increased stamina and stamina regen

Primary: Marksmen rifle - Anti-soft targets

Secondary: SMG pistol - Anti-soft targets

Against bugs

Eagle Airstrike - Anti-soft & hard targets - 3 Uses before rearm - Every 8 seconds - 180 second cooldown
Eagle Strafing run - Anti-bugs & eggs - 4 Uses before rearm - Every 8 seconds 180 second cooldown
Grenade launcher - Anti-bug holes from afar and mid tier enemy units
Shield generator - Protect you from being pinned down by bugs

Armour: SC-30 Trailblazer Scout

Booster: Increased stamina and stamina regen

Primary: SG-225 Breaker - Anti-everything, but chargers and titans. You can easily kill 2 stalkers in 2 seconds with this.

Secondary: SMG pistol - Anti-soft targets

thx for the quick responses.

Gives me a decent idea of what to expect…and who to start coercing to look into the game too xD(ideally all). Figure time being we got enough coop games on the go, let the devs get kinks ironed out for now but that was the main thing cos often we’ll start a game with all four, then dwindles down and many evenings just one friend and I kinda going “well…♥♥♥♥…back to our usual games without them then?” XD this one sounds like won’t be an issue though.

@antique_nova
That’s a hard one lol, guess so long as not absolute brutal slog that never feels winnable, I and my group typically enjoy games like this. Do appreciate games require thought too, that was tipping point for me and the aforementioned one buddy with mechwarrior 5 too, like how about we actually enter missions, with a real plan xD Game became much more manageable once we did that.
I’ll sub to your channel to keep tabs and copy paste that to the ol gaming notes folder for later. Appreciate the detailed answer.

o7 future fellow citizens.

@Mr.Soul

No worries. I'd say anything higher than level 5 is where the difficulty in fighting hordes of enemies becomes outright silly. Because they just spam elite enemies all day long. So unless your equipped to handle that with 3-4 players who know what they're doing, you probably might not enjoy that after a few times. Because it'll feel like a brutal slog.

And no worries. At the end of the day, the game is worth a try (once the servers are properly running. Say 3-4 weeks from now minimum)
